EVO VIII or EVO IX?

I am looking to get the VIII or the IX. In your opinions (which mean something) should I hold out until the end of the year for the IX and take my chances with the interest rates etc. price jump $500? or are there not enough changes to warrant waiting. I know all about the differences between the VIII and IX and if I can get the VIII for a thousand or so dollars cheaper and have a better interest rate now is it that big of an upgrade to the IX?

the problem I see with buying a used evo would be the previous owner. These cars are racing cars and you might never now what has been done especially with problem about the clutch etc. I think I will go new.

Release dates..?

Anyone know exactly when they will stop selling new 05s (or around when they will run out of them...) and when they will be selling just the new 06 Evo IXs? I am sort of having the same dilemma here. I am considering purchasing a new Evo RS around May/June. I'm under the assumption that it'll still be the '05 Evo RS at that time. I have thought about waiting a little longer for the IX / new '06 RS, but I don't know if I'll do that or not right now. Any info would be appreciated!

You might as well wait now. Anyway the nine has alot of goodies that were needed anyway. The interior is tight!

Just wait and get the IX. The upgrades are well worth it.

Scott... do what you want, the opinions on the IX are too split to listen to anyone on here... Some people will say what EvoGSR just said, and others will say that the extra 10 hp is just about the only good addition, and it's not worth 500 bucks... IMO I say buy the one you think looks the best... Anyway, I notice you're from Utah, so, I'll give you an official Utahn welcome, without asking you to convert to Mormonism
Go check out the Evo's In Utah thread under the Midwest region(don't ask why the hell it's under Midwest) There's a lot of pointless posting under there, but, it's fun...

I had the same dilemma. I came to the conclusion that the IX wasnt worth waiting till September for. A new front bumper (I prefer the current one to those 2 round holes in the new one-and only 1 is functional), extra HP (which I've read is only slightly noticeable in 1st-2nd), and the MIVEC system. All fine and great, making a great car greater, for $500 more..

Like UT said, do what is best for you. Meanwhile I probably wont be getting much sleep till my '05 VIII is parked in my garage in early May.

You need to think about what they changed. Is it worth it to you? If you're going to modify your car, why do you need the extra stuff the IX comes with anyway? If you're modding, it depends on the real price difference between the two. If you can get them down a bit, it will be more than a 500 dollar difference. I, for one, think that the changes will be very positive. I will be keeping stock until my warranty blows out the window, so I want the best stock performance, and the IX definitely offers that.

Same boat...

Who knows when the 9's will really arrive though, might not even be this year. I am also considering an RS. Do these really come stripped down no a/c, power windows etc..??

Yeah people say around Sept the 9s will be here, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. Eitherway, the RS is pretty stripped - no power windows/locks/mirrors, no stereo, less noise-deadening material, and I'm sure there are other things it doesn't have that I am leaving out. All pretty cool for weight reduction, really, so if that's what you want, by all means go for it. They still have nice Recaros, momo wheel, etc. They DO come with A/C though - that is standard, so all of them have it. A lot of people seem to think that they don't have it, but they do. I drove an '04 and I loved it. I'm about 99% sure I'll be picking an '05 RS up in the next few months - I can't wait!
