STi vs. Evo

I was just wondering from the people who have owned both, or have extensivly driven in both, which was better in which aspects. I am inbetween deciding between the 2 and its a hard choise. It will be a daily driver, I will take it out some, but mostly just driving around town. I was just wondering if someone could help point out the really good and really bad aspects of each car that they noticed, cause its hard to tell which will be better till I own one, heh and then obviously its too late. Please no one that is closed minded to either one of the cars, I would like open-minded honest opinions. Thx!

I love my Evo RS and have owned an Evo GSR as well and personally think the Evo's are better in every catagory. Sti is still a great car but Evo all the way IMO. Try a search there is alot of discussion on this same matchup.

I owned a 03 Evo, now have an 05 STi.
If you don't want to get major into horsepower, the STi is the way to go.
If your looking for a stripper and relatively cheaper to track race, an Evo is better (it's starting to look very good, bye bye STi maybe)

edit: I Don't care about creature comforts and exteriors, only performance so meh, my experiences are slanted a bit.

heres the thing to think about

how long has USofA had the 4g63 and been working on it?

how long has the 2.5L sti motor been out?

you'll get your answer just from those two questions....

then ADD the rest of the world to it and you get the same answer

Ok, I love the sti and evo. As a matter of fact I wanted an sti over the evo even before I could afford one. But it just so happens that I chose the evo. I would love to have both, but like you had to make a decision. From what I know the sti has more turbo lag then the evo. I also like the exterior looks of an evo more then the sti. It just looks more aggressive to me. I drove my evo to Utah from Vegas, about a 5 hour trip, and believe it or not it was very comfortable. Cruise control and some dynamatting would have been nice but you cant have it all. Interior wise I like the sti. It just seems more classy. Performance wise you are looking at such slight differences that either one is great. It just comes down to taste and style. Everyone will want to race you either way. Its a tough choice and whichever you choose I am sure that you will be happy with it. Just do somemore research and test drive both. Just my two cents.

In Summary:

Stock 05 STi ran 13.274 @ 101.15

Stock 05 Evo 8 ran 13.061 @ 105.68

Overall the STi's clutch seems better than the Evo's out of the gate but if you are going to mod it and want more than mid 12's performance an upgraded clutch is a must have for any serious drag racing. My friend kept getting mid 1.7x short times in his STi where as I was doing mid 1.8x due to the weaker clutch. I've never driven an STi but riding along it seems to be more compliant with the road. Handling wise it may have a shade less bodyroll than the Evo, but the Evo is a bit more agile in stock form. From a performance standpoint if you don't want to to tear into the engine or turbo, the evo will give you more potential as compared to the STi. The Evo has done high 10's on the stock turbo where as the STi's smaller turbo can't even come close (high 11's?). The stock front mount intercooler on the Evo is an overall better setup compared to the STi since most tuners that are shooting for 11's or faster go with a front mounted intercooler to avoid sitting on top of the hot engine. The newer Subaru 2.5 engine has put it behind a few years of aftermarket development as compared to the tried and true 2.0 4G63 in the Evo. It all depends on what you want out of the cars, either one is a great car, but the Evo seems to lend itself more to mods without spending as much cash and out of the box it seems to have a little more performance.

I could be wrong but I've heard a few guys who had STI's traded them in for Evo's. I've never heard of someone trading in their Evo for an STI.

AVANTAGE EVO:

Seats
handling
engine (stronger)
bigger (even though it feels smaller)
nicer steering wheel
MUCH BETTER STEERING (big adv)
rear wiper
front intercoolier
better spoiler
nicer looking (IMO)

ADVANTEGE STI:

warranty
Sub is a better company.
nicer intrument cluster (not interior IMO)
cruise control
more low end power (less lag)

That all i can think of right now!
