Question flash

When people say they recently got a flash, what are they talking about? And where do you get that done the dealer a performance shop? I'm guessing they are flashing their ecu? But I don't understand the concept. I know it increases power gains and stuff from intake and exhaust and such. If anyone could explain this, it would be awesome.

Thanks A Lot,

Flash is an update of the tables in the ECU that effect fuel management. Typically power can be added by increasing timing in the proper areas and leaning out the fuel mix under open loop conditions(flooring it). The ECU factory settings are very rich for safety reasons. By removing some of that safety, power can be increased.

It takes specific hardware to do the flash. About a half dozen vendors associated with this board have the hardware and the knowledge. Dynoflash, Vishnu, Works, Turbotrix & Burshur and the main ones that come to mind.

I have a Question..
I am not sure if this is the proper Thread to post this at but, I recently took my car to a (Mitsu)dealership and they told me that the parameters were way off (I dont have any mods on my '03 EVO yet) So they "Flashed it" ?? Yes at the dealership, now I notice a decrease in power.. why is this ?? can this be corrected??

Please help..

Ps: can my remedy be a Flash from said companies mentioned in this Thread??

Thanks in Advance

was your evo new when you bought it? sounds like the ecu had a performance flash already done and mitsu flashed it back to stock... that or they flash the ecu with an "update". either might come with loss in performance. to answer your question, yes, a flash from said companies would fix this problem. if you plan to stay stock, i recomend a WORKS flash. if you plan on doing a bunch of bolt on type mods, the Vishnu path has been good to a lot of people here.

Yes! try Dynoflash.
1st the damn dealer tried to do the same to me!
As they said they needed to protect my investment! BS in my opinion!
Mitsu protecting their *****! An insider told me that they can up/down the maps at the dealership!
2nd I kept complaining about boost at 15psi and then droping to 11psi!
some how they fixed it and now it goes to 21psi and then drops to 17psi!
how did they do that? must be a flash because at the time I had no MBC and an aftermarket gauge! Car also pulled harder!

ok, Here is another newbie question.. If I decide to leave the car flashed from the dealership and instead of getting it flashed by an aftermarket company, I go ahead and get an MBC with an aftermarker DP + a Cat Back exhaust? will this do the trick? or go ahead and get these things PLUS get a flash from Dynoflash????

I guess my question is What is more reliable ?? on the car that is ? stress-wise ?
