Sorry ...... High tech is better than low tech.
I don't care about the MPG .
In the engineering world, packaging is important.
I can squeeze a 2.0L much easier into a engine bay, than a 7.0L .
Its lighter too which gives you weight advantages in addition. Its more than just MPG.

Dude, you DO realize that the 4G63 has been around for 20 ****ING YEARS right? I wouldn't exactly call that high tech.

well, an all aluminum 7.0L versus an iron block 4 cyl plus cast iron exhaust manifold and metal intake manifold plus turbo and cast iron 02 housing...

Not far off on weight. And I've seen V8's in place of 4 cylinders, it took some REAL engineering but it has been done.

Edit: I would have to agree, the 4G63 as been around for a couple decades. I would believe their is more high tech in the new C6 engine than in the 4G63

Funny how one comment in jest makes everyone pissy!
I guess sarcasm doesnt translate well in letters.
albeit I propetuated your little frenzy.

I still see no reason to need a gazillion L displacement to make HP.

Actually the 4 cyl vs 8 cyl debate IS about MPG ... HWY cruising that is. The Evo is hurt on its MPG by an inadequate 5th gear ratio, but it still gets better MPG than your average V-8. Generally speaking, I've managed to get between 21-24 mpg (not counting the ole Suburban, hehe) on big V8's that I have owned, and I get about 26 mpg with the Evo. With a higher final drive, I'm sure the Evo could get 28 mpg if not better.

wrong my '01 LS1 would do 28-30mpg in 6th gear going about 70 mph on cruise to chicago from St. Louis.. my EVO wont.

+keep in mind that the LS1 is ALL aluminum. Not an iron block, i cant remember the wieght but its significantly lighter than the LT1, and other SBC 350's with traditional iron blocks...

The point here being people who have had hi/po V8's and currently have Evos, and people who are oblivious. You guys wouldn't understand unless you've owned a V8.

I've had several, and I know alot about the GM LS series motors. You guys need to go read up, or better yet, come back to the forums after you've owned one, modified it, and raced it. You WILL have a different opinion.

The other FACT is that ANY motor being introduced in todays world is Hi tech.. Don't misconstrue 1970's old 350 chevy small block low tech beater versus today's 7.0L 500hp all aluminum C6 motor, that prolly gets better gas mileage than the Evo.

Someone close the thread before anymore morons show up.

MIVEC isn't exactly new and exciting technology. VVT has been around for quite a while.
