Red line is around 7600 rpm, the rpm stick might still go up a bit due to the inertia but I don't think you are really doing 8000rpm

shouldn't be revving past 7k if you're stock. certain restrictions will do damage to your valvetrain and whatnot if you keep revving that high.

Shouldn't the stock rev limiter stop me from doing damage? This is its job after, right?

The stock rev-limiter is ~7600, but it may appear a bit different on to the tack due to some lag and/or error in the tach. You should be fine if you want to test it out. As mentioned the Mitsu engineers put it in place to help prevent you from going into the realm of danger. There's still a bit of a safety margin beyond the stock limiter.

If you DON'T rev past 7k, you aren't driving your car properly...

The stock rev limit is set to about 7600 rpm, but you can't really trust the stock tach. If you actually see it get past the 8k tick mark while accelerating, then there is a problem, though.

so to get the best times, for a stock car, is to shift at 7600k and not 7000, isn't there like a sweet spot to shift to get the best times?

No, don't shift at redline. 7200-7300 should be good, but it depends on your car and driving style. Shifting at or below 7000 will hurt your times, though...

I recall with cams the car is faster shifting after 7000rpms.

BTW. wasn't the redline for the 03 7400rpms. Was the 05's bumped up?

It's faster when shifting above 7k with or without cams. Cams allow you to take it to 7800 while still making great power, at which point the ony limitation is the stock turbo.

I don't know about 03s, but it's 7600 on 05s.
