Exclamation n00b ALERT- Click here!

Heyyy

1- I like the atmosphere of this forum.

2- It sounds like u guys are Evo experts, and if I had any questions, I can ask u all.

3- I am a freshmen in college, and my dad said that if i get a GPA of 4.0, for two years, he will buy me the Lancer Evo. Now from what I read here, it has me worring a little. That is cause from what I gathered:
a)The insurance costs are CRAZY.

b) The user maintnace costs are also crazy.

c) It is thief prone?
Now I know this is a Evo forum, but is this car REALLY ok for a college student? And keep in mind that if I do get it, I will be driving it 45 min everyday to school, and there is snow where I live.

4- If I do get it, I want to upgrade it to at LEAST 300 hp. Can someone recommend anything?

5- I know I am dreaming, and will sound lame, but I wanted to put some Nos on my EVO. Should I do it, and what do the prices range? And can the Evo VIII engine use Nos without being damaged?

Well, there u go. Thats me. Now how about u?

a) yes, generally
b) yes, unless you do the things yourself
c) depends on where you live, I've had people kiss their hand and touch their hand to my car but that's about it. (and I do it myself, so... not really a big deal)
c2) yeah, definitly okay (I'm a sophomore right now, but I had it as a freshman) and it kicks *** in the snow if you get good snow tires (or all seasons)
...uh, 4) Depends on what you mean by 300 hp, if you're talking adding ~25hp to the 276 then all you'll need (probably) is a Turbo-back exhaust (cat-back, downpipe, testpipe/hi-flow cat) If you're talking 300 whp on XYZ dyno, then you'll have to be more specific.
5) Some people are running NOS, but overall it is kind of a stupid idea, but it will work on an Evo (how long, and how much you'd have to ask someone else) Seriously though, forget NOS... get a Turbo-back exhaust, an ECU reflash, some cams, and an airfilter replacement/intake.... then if you don't like how fast it is, start pondering things like NOS

oh yeah... and...
1) The atmosphere isn't really that great
2) The reason for the above is because everyone thinks they know everything, and most of them are *******s because of it... and even those who aren't, are incredibly opinionated (Yeah, I'm included in this, especially on threads about the IX) One word of advice, don't believe everything you read on here, even what I have said should be verified. No one knows EVERYTHING, simple fact of life.
3) And good luck with the 4.0 GPA in college, best of wishes!

a.)4.0 man that will be tough, im a college student my self good luck though. As far as the insurance in can be high, but since im a student and dont work full time i got my car insured with my dad ;he takes care of that bill for me since im a full time student. I just make the monthly payments.
b.) it can be, but if you do basic maintenance like oil change and etc. you will save money.
c.) the evo comes with an immobilizer, but no alarm. So as soon as you get it i suggest u get a high quality car alarm, like a good viper alarm with a starter kill, not that u need it since it already comes with an immobilizer. But additional security wouldnt hurt.

good luck man...

A) Depending on the State you are living in
B) Parts are expensive. i.e. Brakes
C) If the thief really want your car,..........
Good luck on your grades!

My insurance isn't really that high, the ins for my RSX costs more than for the Evo.

How much much more power does NOS really give the car? And how much would all those things that u suggested cost me? And how much faster would my car go with those in it?

c.) the evo comes with an immobilizer, but no alarm.
Can u tell me more about the immobilizer?

ps: what are you majoring in?
I am going for Business. Then I might go to Law school...But a Psychology degree is looking very interesting to me right now. BTW- I am going to John Carroll University.

NOS, i have no idea on that... But with what I said I would guess around 320-350 at the wheels depending (meaning ~400 bhp to compare to the stock 276 bhp)... Just the turbo-back exhaust, the tune, and filter have awesome gains, from 207 whp stock I am now doing 276 whp and the car is a whole new animal... How much they would cost you would depend... on a lot... but lets say 800 for a good TBE (you can probably get one for a lot cheaper), 300 for the tune, and like 70 for the filter... then if you want intake usually around 200-300 (and subtract the 70 for the filter, cuz you won't need that), ~500 for cams, so what is that total... 1800? If you do ALL the installs yourself etc etc... probably around 2500 with installs... maybe... 750+62+300 is what I've got done so far (but don't forget in-betweens like a boost gauge and manual boost controller if you don't get a boost controlling tune)

= the immobilizer is basically like a starter kill. You cannot start an evo without its coded keys. Each key is being recognized by your car, making it harder for thiefs to start your car without your keys.

= Im currently majoring in architecture. Im currently attending a community college for my ascociates. This will be my last year and i will have my ascociates degree and then I will continue to Arizona State University for my bachelors degree and later for my masters.
School is tough man you might as well have fun at the same time. Having an evo while in college could be one of them. Besides the attention you get in school, you will have fun driving it.
Work hard on your grades or do whatever it takes to get the evo. You wont regret it bro.
