Evo Owners and Insurance
I have been wanting to take my evo to a track for a few months. My dad, however, wont let me. He says that I need some sort of special insurance that will cover the car for track use and it will wind up costing a fortune (15 grand in his mind). I just wanted to know what you who track your evos do. Mine is still my daily driver, so i dont wanna turn it into a track only car. I just dont know how to convince my dad into letting me track my car. Thanks!
you need special track insurance if you are racing aginist other cars. if you do track school, some insurance company will cover it as if it is a driving school. you should check with your insurance agent. i am with country companies in chicago area. last time i checked, track school is covered.
Yeah, you just have to cross your fingers! I was at an event where an M3 had pretty much every body panel touch the wall. The owner had it pulled about a mile down the road and called his insurance company from there.
yeah if you are racing as far as I know they dont care. You know the whole at your own risk deal. Driving school may be different. I rolled a turbo bug I had several years ago when my left front tire blew out on a 1/4 mile run. I was at about 95-100 when it went and i came too a few moments later to see nothing but twisted ****ty metal and gas and oil smell. I got out saw it was crunced all over. It had rolled 4 times once end over end and smacked the wall every way possible. it destroyed a $10k dollar project and I didnt get a penny back on it. Ins company said oops dont race. Thankfully I was 100% ok. So i came out ahead

You can buy issurance specifically for track days. Pick up a copy of Grassroots Motorsports; I have seen at least 2 ads in that mag for track use coverage. It was about $400/year for an unlimited number of track days. This coverage was for "driving school" type track days and not sanctioned motor racing events.
If you plan on using your current insurance policy, I would recommend reading it very carefully. You may or may not get your carrier to cover a track accident, and it would probably be just once before they canned you.
Hope this helps.
