I want to trade in my 2003 Evo 8 for a newer model. Originally, I thought I wanted a 2006 Evo 9. But they have a 2005 Evo 8 GSR (almost identical to my 2003 GSR) with great incentives, and it'll end up being $2500 cheaper than the 9. I'm torn! The only reason I really want the 9 is: it's a 9! But for all practical purposes, I don't see any really good reasons to wait for the 9. Help!

What should I get?

If there isn't a real reason, I would go for the '06.

 

no real good reasons for the IX???? mivec, hello, front bumper, hello, more power from the factory than any VIII, heeeeelllllllllllllllloooo.

I would just wait for the 9 then... but, it's your call. If they have one you like with the 8, your best bet may be to just go ahead and get it.

 

I talked to Shiv 2 nights ago and he told me to stick with the '03. He get his cars FREE but if had to BUY one, he said he'd buy on '03 with low miles. Go figure.

 

If you can swing the extra $2500, get the 9, it has all the bells and whistles of the 05's plus MIVEC.

 

I'm curious how the mivec will take to tuning? Seems to be alot of talk of the new variable timing as a nuiscence to work with...who knows also wondering which to get.

I think the IX engine will be easy to tune, still the same engine just with the Mivec head right? Tuners should not have much problems cranking out more HP, and I think this car may even make more power easily. I say get the IX, why, because it really isn't that long of a wait, and if you get the VIII, you may regret it and wish you got the IX. Then again it's your choice, do whatever makes you the happiest.

 

Just stay with your 8.

 

05 all the way! 06 body style is a JOKE! Plus the extra 6-8 grand difference! 05 now while they are clearing them out.

 

could someone explain to me why the mivec makes the 4G63 more difficult to mod? would light mods be better on the mivec or without the mivec?

The 9s are gonna be pricey when they come out. All the dealerships I have spoken to have said they are going to mark them up.
