New Evo and 3 Questions

Hi Everyone,

I just got my 05 Black Evo with SSL last night, but I have a few questions because the guy that was explaining everything didn't really seem to know what he was talking about.

1. What kind of gas should I fill it up with. (He said any, it doesn't matter which doesn't really sound right).

2. How long is the break in period (He said 1,000 miles which again doesn't sound right).

3. This is a bit of a dumb question, but if I take my car through a car wash will water get through the vent on the hood and mess up the engine?

These were all pretty newby questions, but answers would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and by the way to the people wondering how much I got it, I got it with the 0.0 APR offer and paid 32,500 + TTL + 500 (because the guy that was helping me was nice).

Thanks

1) Minimum of 91 (as per the directions in the owners manual)

2) I'm pretty sure it's either 1000 or 1200, the owners manual would be the best source for that answer.

3) Nope, your battery, air filter, fuse box etc. are all covered. You're good to go! If you wanted, you could put the vent insert cover thing in first though. Your decision.

Congrats on the evo and welcome aboard!

I would imagine that all of these questions have been answered on here many times before...but here they are again..

1. Premium fuel only, whatever the best you can get in your town..ie 91 or 93

2. Supposedly every engine is broken in from mitsubishi to an extent. Many people have different views/opinions on breaking in a new motor. I would search this one and find a result that you are happy with. I have seen people put 3500 miles on before seeing 3500 rpms. Then I have also seen many people going WOT straight from the dealer...

3. Yes water will get in the vent, but if mitsubishi didnt water to get in there because it would cause a problem they probably woundlt have put it there...

hope this helps...

1. always 93 or higher grade of gas. 2. 3000mi I did and mine runs strong. 3. I always hand wash my car its good to let the engine cool down but a little water through the vent wont hurt.

Wow, thanks so much guys for the welcome and the answers. I probably won't be on the boards for weeks because I am just going to be driving my car all around the city. I still get giddy when I just even look at it, nevermind even driving it.

Anyway thanks guys.

1. Try to use no less than 93, but 91 is acceptable if that's all you can get in Cali.

2. 3000 miles absolutely ludicrous, so don't go by that recommendation. The video that they make everyone watch (not sure why yours didn't) says to not go over 5k rpm for the first 600 miles, but that's it. After 600, you can knock yourself out.

3. There is no danger. You will see steam from the water evaporating, but that's no problem. Just don't remove the louvres that keep water from going directly in the engine bay when it's raining...

3. I drove mine through a touchless car wash 1 time, and the soap left unsightly gack all over my engine and heat shield. Hand wash the car if that bothers you; it does me.

I bought the same car as you (good taste bro!) and like everyone said, use the most expensive gas at all times (91 or better), after 600 you're fine (but VARY the RPMs as much as possible. . .I decided to do some hard accelerations after 400 miles, in 4th gear, like 50-90mph, NEVER EXCEEDING THE 5000RPM point), and hand wash your call at ALL TIMEs, because it just makes sense too . . .you can drive your EVO in rain . . .sometimes .

Don't ever take your car to a car wash...it'll never get the love and attention it so dearly needs. Wash it yourself, and take your time....OH, and congrats!

The 600 miles break in is right , since it does around 1000 Km ( Japanese system is metric ) . As for the car wash , I wouldn't recommand it , especially on a black car , but maybe you live in an appartment , so you got no choice ^^

Congrats on the buy

Yeah man, I must say... the black evo with black seats and all is dead sexy. Great minds think alike I guess.

By the way, thanks for all the info and welcome guys.
