Scott Barbour - great tuner!!

so I got tuned by a very popular tuner in socal and thought my car was running pretty well. Then I ran into this guy, Scott Barbour (Pd1 on this board), who answered several questions I had about tuning in general. While we were chatting, he offered to take a look at my existing tune for free. After downloading the tune from my ECU, we walked through how the maps looked to him. He gave me an honest opinion in that there didn't seem to be any HUGE problems, but that a tune by him would result in a better performing car.

Weeks later, I finally scheduled the road tune. He hooked up his Innovate LM-1 wideband and we were off. We first took a "baseline" log to see how the car was running on the previous tune. I'll attach the log and name it "before.csv".

Notice the 7 counts of knock up top and inconsistent wideband air/fuel ratio. Nearly 12:1 AFR at high RPM seems a little lean to me.

Scott said, "okay, we can do better than this." He loaded up a map that he had custom created for my car, and off we went. On the very first pull, I could already tell that the car liked whatever he just did! Several pulls later, we ended up with the tune I have today.

The "after.csv" was the last full 3rd gear pull we did. He even dialed out that 2 counts that you see in the log. To ensure that everything was working properly in all gears and many different types of pulls, we headed to the highway. You can see some of the results of this on the "run_through_the_gears.csv" which I'll attach. This thing feels like a brand new car. Totally different. Super responsive. Very fast. Pulls all the way
to redline! I've fallen in love with my car all over again.

the absolute numbers for the dyno isn't important (you'll get much higher reading on a typical dynojet), but notice the power/torque curve and area under the curve.

as you can see about 20whp/20wtq gain. car is much more responsive - turbo spools much quicker, and even off boost the car still has pretty decent *****.

I'm not going to post what I paid for this new tune, but let's just say that he's a really reasonable guy who doesn't do this for the money. The time that was spent really getting this thing dialed in was worth twice what I paid. Seriously.

So the moral of the story is that even if you think that you've got a "pro" tune on your car, have it checked. Scott B does datalogs for free and can probably make your car run even better.

i'm posting this thread here because the thread on socalevo.net got locked...just trying to spread some information and provide you with another tuner option in socal.

The only good thing I can say about Scott Barbour is that he saved my motor from destruction!!...O my what a great tunner...My tune before was done buy a well known SOCAL shop and things didn't look good..They even fouled my plugs from there tune,,,But thanks to Scott Barbour he saved my engine,,
And he doesn't stop tuning your car till it's just right UNLIKE OTHER TUNNERS..,Before Scoot's tune the car was weak and slugish (GT30R) NOW!! it's a whole new car..
All I can say greatness greatness greatness,,,,,,And great price///
