Ralliart or ES
I am a newbie here and I have a question. I have been waiting for a black lancer ralliart for about 2 months. I can't find a new 05 so I'm waiting for an 06. My buddy keeps telling me NOT to buy the ralliart and buy the low end ES model. Since there is about $4000 difference between the two models, he says I could put the 4 grand into mods. I'm just worried the 120 hp ES is going to be too slow to start off with. If anyone can let me know what you think I appreciate it.

There's no way you can get an ES, put 4000$ on it and have a RA. You could put that much money in the engine and have more power... but then no money left to get a decent suspension. And then there's the waranty issue on a SC or turbo car...
If you think about all the options that are standard on the RA, there's no way the ES is gonna be your best choice. You can't even get EBD on the ES... and that's one of the best features on the RA.
Investing in patience is better than rushing to get a car that won't really suit your needs.
But if you decide to go with the ES and want to build a RA out of it, here's your shopping list (things to be added/swapped):
2.4 liter MIVEC engine
2 1/8" stainless exhaust
4 sensors, 4 channel ABS with EBD
Bigger disc brakes in the front
Disc brakes in the back
Sportier transmission with triple synchro on 2nd gear
Short throw shifter linkage
Sport-tuned suspension
Sport-tuned steering
Light 16" Enkei wheels
Front strut bar
Quality front seats
Nicer interior trims
Full body lip kit
Fog lights
Aluminum pedals ('06 model year only)
I might have missed a couple of things though...

It really depends what you want. If you want to go fast in a strieght line. The ES with mods would most likely be faster. By doing this you void your warrenty and may cost you a LOT more than 4000$ in the long run.
If you want to stay safe with the warrenty get the RA and don't do any mods.
