What do you think?

Well my mom is going to give me her 05 Lancer OZ, when I get out of college. I am a senior right now, so it will be about 5 years till I get it. Just a thought, should I put the money into a free car, or should I trade in for an Evo. I love Mitsu so it will be a Lancer for sure if I trade in.

I say, trade in for Evo (IX) or RA. But go ask your mom before you do that or she might feel bad . Btw I am confused about you getting it until 5 years, are you a high school sr or college sr?

You're talking about 5 years down the line, why not decide based on the cars available then? The evo might be a POS by then as far as we know.

I am a senior in high school, and I suppose 5 years is a pretty long ways done. However, my mom says I can start modding now if I want. So would it be worth it to keep the lancer under the basis that I can mod it now and enjoy it later, or just leave it stock and go with a better car?

I got my Lancer with the same promise from my dad. I didn't pay a dime and I got to pick out the economy car of my choice. I chose the Lancer. It's a fun car to mod if you know what you are doing. It's unique and can be made to be fun to drive.

I would say that you'd have to weigh what you want to do with your car. You might be able to get the car you want while in college if you work while you go to school... if you do that then perhaps modding the Lancer for you would be a waste of money. I'd say figure out what you would want to do now and stick to that plan. But in the end its about the passion of tuning your car to make it your's and special. Enjoy whatever car you get and keep working on it till you get it to the point of completion in your eyes.

If you have to wait 5 years to get the car, I wouldn't bother modding it. 5 years is a long time, in 5 years you'll be out of high school and you should have a degree. Do you really want to be driving a 5 year old lancer then?
