What gives? If you can get better gas mileage out of a performance vehichle, isn't that a good thing? Maybe you don't mind paying 20% more for fuel, but I'm sure most people here do.

Well, more HP + more torque = 1 mpg less on the HWY (than the VIII) isn't all that bad. Just goes to show that Mitsu has squeezed about as much as it can out of its engines in the way of fuel economy.

The original quote was 10% better fuel economy. The fact that it gets a little less is not impressive. I would rather take ten less horsepower and have 31 MPG. Just me I guess? I am sure that a higher MPG Plus more HP was a VERY appealing incentive to get people that already have an EVO to buy the IX. Getting less is just wrong! I can get a RE-FLASH and gain a couple MPG + have more HP than the IX……………..

The point is that some of us were under the impression that the EVO IX was going to get 21/31 MPG and it has been changed to 19/25. This is only NEWS!!!!!!

I would hazard a guess that the ecu re-mapping done by MMNA to accomodate the ****-poor (91) gas might have something to do with it.

Also, don't the JDM IXs develop peak torque at 3k RPM versus our 3.5k RPM......I'm not sure the MIVEC fully delivers on the USDM cars because of the re-mapping; guess we'll have to wait for dyno runs to say for sure.

I think the JDM Version has a alloy turbo, thus faster spool-up.

Hmmm... what catches my eye is that the MR is 1 mpg less than the "standard" Evo (both city and hwy). It's the same engine, with lighter wheels but gets lower gas mileage? It must be the vortex generator.

If you're pumping more air, you've gotta compensate with pumping more fuel ... of course the mileage will take a hit ...

kinda disappointing for a technology that's supposed to be like VTEC...it seems like the extra power is only coming from the turbo tweaks....

So you are comparing a flashed VIII to a stock IX? Why not wait until the tuners out there have played around with the IX and then do a fair comparison?

Nevermind, what am I thinking, logic is beyond your comprehension. I think you should file a class action lawsuit with all your tree hugging buddies against Mitsubishi for false advertisement. Nevermind the disclaimer at the bottom of all those stats you posted, I'm sure you could hire a really good attorney who could get right past those. Maybe you could even take DNA samples from Johnny Cochran's dead body and clone him so he could take your case. O. J. Simpson told me he is really good...
