I remember reading this great article by Dan from Mach V. I am sure some of you have but for those who didn't, its a good read.

u know, this reminds me of what my friend (wrx owner) said about wrx forums. he used to be on them all the time, then lots of ppl started coming in, asking about loud bov's, 20's in chrome and "which body kit should i get??!1" and also uncle ben's rice. that's when he stopped going on the forums.

Any valve that has a horn or trumpet venting to the open atmosphere for your ear to hear is releasing air that has already been measured by your MAF sensor in the intake, that is supposed to be mixed with fuel in your engine. You hear the sound, and the fuel is injected causing a momentary bog from the richness or complete stall out in some cases... not much for performance minded.

For the true performance enthusiast interested in maximum performance while using a MAF sensor, 100% recirculation is the only solution.

For those that absloutly must hear their vented boost, a dual port valve is the way to go, this vents only part of the air, while recirculating the rest for a better-than-nothing approach.

Hope this helps clear the air a little bit!

To be honest, we don't need another 'wannabe mod' on these forums. If you don't care to help someone, please don't reply with your worthless crap about how the thread is not needed, etc.

Back on topic...

I ordered the APS last week, and should be getting it, and installing it tommorrow. I have only seen good feedback about the APS, so I don't see where you can go wrong. It has a nice sound when boosting high, but when ur driving normal you aren't able to hear it. It recirculates, and vta's some of the air.. so you get the best of both. Also.. it holds boost well.. and it isn't all that expensive. Hope this helps.

I also second the APS. After much extensive research I decided to order my APS from Rallysport direct. $215, free shipping. If you search EVOM, you'll figure out quickly which bov or DV people have been having problems with. I found zero complaints about the APS, which is why I bought it. Plus, people have been saying that you don't hear it until higher RPMs, which is fine with me. ...I don't want to be blowing off with every little gear shift.

I have buddies with turbo cars using vta bovs, and eventually you feel like you're rolling around in an amusement park ride.

wow, people on the wrx forums were asking questions about 20 foot tall rims?

if you want a good sounding BOV just go to ebay and get one of the greddy
type-s imatation bovs, you can get them brand new for like 50 bucks. If you want that loud bov sound without any of the issues related to venting it to the atmoshpere, just get that greddy type-s style bov, an HKS panel filter, then remove the top of your airbox lid, use something to fasten the frame of the HKS panel filter to the lower part of your airfilter housing, and it will sound just like your venting to the atmosphere but with out any of the related issues. It will be loud, almost too loud. you can have the whole set up for a little over $100 bucks.
hks panel filter -$35, greddy type-s style bov $50, dsm bov flange $25 off ebay.
also the turbo spooling sound will be really loud. I know alot of people dont care about sounds etc., I'm just trying to show this guy a cheap way to get what he wants, and a way that wont have his car running like crap.

I'm glad you were able to learn from this. You can't go wrong with the 2 you are deciding between. Remember that the JDM MR DV costs half as much and works perfectly, but won't make hardly any noise, which is what I prefer.

None.

Get one of those electrical blow-off valve devices instead, and use a proper JDM MR DV.

I am so dead serious.

In my opinion since I own a turbo car I want to hear the turbo and the bov. I can't see spending 30k on a turbo car and not hearing the turbo, thats like buying a Ferrari and driving it like grandpa and never reving the engine to hear that sweet sound they make. I'm not saying go all out and vta you bov but go in the middle with a APS or Turbosmart and you'l be happy beacuse you get the best of performance (not100%) and sound!!!!!!! You buy the jdm your getting what you allready have just in different material, you might as well send me your $100 to help pay for my car loan.
