Question Interesting Deal?

A dealer near me has an '05 evo with 6k miles, is going to put a new motor in it and sell it to me for $20k. They are doing a very good job of reassuring me that all warranties will be honored. Do I have SUCKER tattooed on my forehead or should I not look a gift horse in the mouth?

BTW I currently drive an '02 WRX sedan with 46k on the odo. and I have an opportunity to wash my hands of it before it depreciates any more.

Any feedback is of course greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't do it and I am eagerly wanting an Evo. Every other day I think "I can just apply for a loan now and have an Evo by the end of the week!" But then my reasonable side of my brain kicks in and says "No!! You already promised yourself you would pay off a few bills first, then get an Evo - you still have month till your goal of Evo onwership date!!" I would steer clear, and I mean very clear of any Evo that already needs a new engine after only 6k miles and less than a year of ownership, regardless of reason.

Get it in writing and I don't see why not.

Make sure all other parts are in good condition though.

Barely 6k...new motor...doesnt sound like the person treated the car very well...so you should thoroughly inspect EVERYTHING of the car before even considering anything...damn kids....the fact of me being 18 with an evo...makes me more "grown up"..haha

But then again, I'm closing in on 5k on mine..maybe lucky number 6 is up for us young guys

Goodluck with your purchase.

wait a sec a new motor on it? So thats means he blew out or f*cked up the original one? If its a new motor then i would be interested. Though check the other components, the wheel and rims and suspension ( the kid prolly just didn't kno how to respect the car), etc.

I would be interested but proceed with caution!!

Get the car for 15k and build the motor on your own. Turn it into a beast!

If you do get this car, it will be a heck of a deal if only the engine was damaged. I doubt it though. Unless the engine blew from him bouncing it off the rev limiter in neutral for a while, you really have to worry about most all of the other drivetrain parts. It was abused - plain and simple. It might be in and out of the dealership for the lifetime of the warranty. . Sure, free parts, but it is a hassle. Get everything in writing, have the contract checked out. Any little question you have, ask and get a direct answer.

Ask yourself, would you buy the car if it wasn't such a deal?

ya definitely check out the rest of the car. IMHO buying a 2005 Evo with a new engine already says something about the history of the car.
