I Turned, Maybe

Well i am sad to say that i might not purchase an evo. I went to two dearlships today and i am leaning towards the 06 STI. From what i have heard that the paint, wing etc, is falling apart it seems to me that the Evo doesnt have that good quality. Also i am going to be 18 and i need a car that is going to last me a good 15 years to come. I know that this is an evo site, and everyone else would perfer to have an evo. I dont really plan on modding my car that i do purchase, just bolt on's. Also i have heard that mitsubishi is going down hill, and i might have problems later on having maitience etc, on my warranty. If you have any advice about the STI, that could help make my decision please post want to make the best purchase that i can?

you should pick up the latest road and track and read the comparison on th evo9 or the 06 sti and look at the 0-60 and 0-100mph. I'm not knocking the STI i'm just not a fan. Also other then straight line times the evo will out handle the STI. The mitsubishi warrenty is better as long as your staying stock. If you modifing then warrenty is not a issue.

Great idea, you should join the Subaru Forums. Good luck driving your new STi for 15 years.

sti and subaru's in general also have bad paint.
my bro has an 04 sti, and i have an 04 evo
the 2 cars are different.
the sti's trans is just out of this world
but the handling of the evo tops that.

ohhh, and there is a very smaller number of bolt ons for the STI. however, putting on an exhaust and hooking up an access port gets my bro in the mid 12's/

OK lets c where should i start. The paint is a little worse on the Evo but not that much, if u keep it well it should last good, the wing i havent heard any problems bout that. If u dont think an Evo has a good quality u dont kno NUTTIN bout DSM, there are DSM cars out there with the LEGENDARY 4g63 engine with good amount of modifications and put over 100k in miles.

Second, yea bolt ons. So wat? U can do the same for an Evo? Ur just biased on that one.

Third, yes there's rumors on the troubled problems of Mitsu but there are def NOT gonna fall in the next few years. From what i heard they are gettin back on their feet

Fourth, no car is gonna last 15 yrs... it would last but it would not have the original quality it possessed the first time a person bought it.

AND again u posted another thread bout the STI and the Evo. Dude from wat it looks like ur just uneducated, thats all i can say. U dont kno much about these cars except thats its fast.

yeah the engine may last for 15 years but things like starters, gaskets, turbos, seats, electrical equipement, emission equipment, shocks all go bad no matter what car it is, have fun with the sti, and if u really want a car that will last 15 years get a base civic

NO DOUBT!! Agree 100%. Get a Honda/Toyota if you want a car for 15 years. At 18 I could not afford an EVO or even the maintanence. That's a whole different topic though.

I've got an 8MR and an 04-05Sti.

The Subaru seems slightly better built. However, it is also slightly smaller. Which doesn't mean a lot until you have people in the back. It sticks to the road a little less than the Evo, but it's really more a different characteristic rather than a lack of performance.

Even bolt-on parts are near non-existent for the Sti and as I said sometime ago, doing anything on an Sti takes at least twice as long as the evo. If you want a taste, here's how you remove an Sit's exhaust manifold: http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-ca...-e_ex-mani.pdf {it's in Japanese, but the pictures tell a thousand (in this case millions) words.

The Sti is very nice to drive, mine's supposed to have 320bhp from the factory (s203) and my 8MR has Ralliart ECU, turbo-back and a K&N drop-in. The Evo is easily faster.

As for Mitsubishi going under? I don't think they've been doing well lately, but if we only count the car-making side of things, I think Mitsubishi is still several times larger a company than Subaru. I think the fact that they are not doing well financially won't mean that you will find them closing up shop at any point in the future.

For me? I llike both. If I can only keep one? Well the subaru, sadly, will have to go.

And finally, if you're 18 you will not be able to keep the car for 15 years. When the newer models come out, eventually you will not be able to resist.

In the last thread I read about the wing thing people said that Mitsubishi is making the wings better now, more clear coat or something, so any of the newer cars should be ok and I think they said old wings are being replaced with new ones under waranty if you have problems.

That is just what I heard, you might want to try a search to confirm or deny it.
