BOV on a stock evo?

I was recently reading around and could not find why it is bad to have a BOV on a stock evo. I have a 05 RS and was currently lookin for one. possibly the HKS Rs. If there is a recirculator on it will still let off into the atmosphere,, but also send some back to the intake.. so why is it bad??

I appreciate any and all suggestions and comments

Unless you turn up the boost it might end up being just a party favor.

Early on some BOV's were causing stalling issues, but I think most of that has been worked out.

My stock was leaking around 22 psi so I replaced mine with a Greddy type S. No stalls, adjustable with out removing it, which is handy when playing around with boost etc...

The most important part is to keep it recirculated so that the air/fuel mix doesnt get screwed up when the bov vents. Any metered air that is vented is a bad thing. The only other thing is that you have to make sure it will open easy enough to not get surging. Some aftermarket valves are too stiff.

You already have a BOV from the factory, so of course it's not bad to have one on a stock Evo.

The next question would be - why do you want to upgrade your BOV when you have no other mods? The stock BOV holds stock boost just fine. You don't need to upgrade it until you're making more power and pushing more boost. Also, I thought an HKS RS was an intake, not a BOV. The HKS SSQV is a BOV, yet it causes way more problems than it's worth on Evos...

Alright, I am really tired of reading about questions about VTA BOVs, yet I still click on the thread. I guess it's just for entertainment. What is with people wanting to advertise they have a turbo'd car? Just forget about the ****ing VTA BOVs and buy something useful.

And by the way, you obviously didn't search because there has got to be 500 threads about this topic.

You don't need one just because of an exhaust. You need one when you get a boost controller and run over 20psi. Even then, you don't really need it, but it is somewhat helpful.

When I put my Blitz BOV VTA on my evo my check engine light would come on after driving 80-100+ for more than 5-10 min. Always would happen on the way down to LA. Also when the light would come on, it would stutter until I let off the gas and got back on it. If I moved less than an inch on the gas it would start to stutter again. It was very annoying driving like this for more than 3 1/2 hrs. I had to stop and unplug the battery to take off the check engine light and would not go faster than 70 mph and it would be fine. Took to Mitsu. and they stated it was because I put some octane booster in it and it put a film on the fuel injectors???????? I sold before I could find out what it really was that made that stutter.

wow, was that the wrong question to ask here. I think these kids look at bov the way most other forums look at neons and wings. I don't think it's about advertising you have a turbo car b/c if someone knows that sound is a BOV then they already know your car is turbo. It's a cool sound though. I had no idea they were looked down on so much until I came here. I really don't understand the animosity.

Anyways, who really cares, do what you want, it's your car. And as for it being something useful, I suppose it is as useful as Evo 7 tails or the UK badge. It doesn't really do much, but if it makes you like your car more, go for it.

I went with a HQS SSQ BOV which vented to the atmosphere 100% and immediately had problems with stalling. ITs because the BOV is placed after the Mass Air flow sensor.
I think the stalling is cause by not enough air going into the manifold because it has been purged after the M.A.S. has done its thing.
So right now I have the stock BOV back as well - except I have the wiring feeding to the stock one, and the car is working great again.

I am going to sell the aftermarket one and get a plugin replacment HKS when the Time is right.

Hope that helps.

The problem isn't that he's venting to the atmosphere, thats fine, people can do what they want. The problem is that this topic has been covered like 50 ka-trillion times, and for some reason that search button doesn't seem to get used.

If I can make a suggestion from my experience, my first mod was a Greddy Type S BOV. It is now sitting in my room until I up the boost and I don't even know if im going to use it when I do that. so my suggestion is save the 200 dollars for now and go to www.dynoflash.com and get a mail-in flash for 200 dollars WAYYYY more worth it

My thoughts exactly. Why am I still clicking on these threads?!? If you ask me, the last thing anyone with an Evo needs is to make it louder on purpose, not to mention the problems a VTA can cause.

It's barely audible on a stock car, especially one with the stock airbox. The APS is not for noise; it's for holding high boost efficiently.
