evo drinks coolant
evo drinks coolant
on my evo i have to fill up the coolant for the radiator about every week or so. the level in the coolant overflow bottle always seems to deplete...is this normal?? the guy i bought the car from took out the intercooler waterspray and replaced the space with a tube from the fender to the open air intake in the car. would the absense of the intercooler spray affect the coolant levels?
i haven't noticed any puddles...but i will definitely look for them...for a while i couldn't figure out why the radiator fan came on so much. it made sense when i checked the coolant level. any other suggestions as to what could be causing this?
try burping the cooling system.
take off the rad cap, park it on a downhill, turn the heat on full blast, let the car warm up a bit, and the air will start to come out of the rad, then just fill it up and see if this helps.
Is the car spitting out the coolant from the tube?
i have a supra, and its a common problem.
Usually a bhg, but i doubt that for your case.

Just the other day I noticed an alarmingly low coolant level in my car as well. Haven't yet determine what I can contribute it too as I'm still investigating, but I'll let you all know what I find!
I have to fill mine up every couple of days depinding how hard I drive it. I have a blown head gasket and it push the coolent back through the rad cap into the overflow tank. And it also has has low comp in #2. But the funny thing is it really has not loss much H.P. I ran my buddys 05 Evo with the same mods that mine has but his has a custom tune and i have a mail in flash and we where pretty much dead even...
Coolant just doesn't disappear.
Well maybe if you haven't changed it in 2+ years it will be low.
Unlikely you have an air pocket cause you've been filling it for a week as you stated.
You either have an external leak or your slowly burning coolant in the combustion.
MK3 supras use to blow headgaskets and symptoms are the same. It will eventually over heat if the reservoir becomes empty.

my 03 once emptied out the bottle.. never found out why.. but you either are leaking it, burning it, its going in the oil, or its pushing it out the overflow bootle.. all of those could be a headgasket... take the car and get a coolant pressure test done.. it will tell you.. or rent one and do it yourself.. very easy, connct pump to filler neck, pump to 15 psi, and watch if needle drops.. if that reveals nothing, get the dye put in it.. those are your only 2 easy tests.. and one will find a prob. if there is any..
i have talked to some people that have had the coolant thief visit's them too.. one thing i thought of is under severe boost with stock studs, it might be lifting the head enough to suck it out.. just a little at a time.. plus there have been people when doing a head job, there has been signs of the head lifting near the chambers.. i have seen people with pics showing this, asking what is causing it.. it only seemed to be on 03's though.. and there wasnt very many either..
