hey everyone I've had my viii for about 3 months now and I have been searching on this site for about 2 months to try and learn a thing or two. Well I think that I have a good idea about what my first mods will be. Probably a K&N drop in and a dynoflash mail in possibly a mbc (after i do some more research on them). There was a question that i have failed to answer for myself by searching around. I hope i didnt overlook this while searching (dont want to be anoying) I have seen a few evo's and sti's out there and they sound like (what i've seen many people on evo.m describe as weedwacker) you really hear the whining of the turbo even while idleing or slight reving. I will look to do other mods in the future as i learn more but am I screwed into having to sound this way eventually if i get more mods. I want to avoid the ricey sound. So i guess my question is what should I avoid to not have this weed wacker sound.

thanks everyone for your input

I don't know what a weedwhacker sound is or how in the world an Evo can make such a sound when idling and slightly revving, but I can tell you that there are no sounds from my car other than the exhaust. Hearing the turbo spool is a good thing, but it should just be a natural sound that you hear when hitting full boost. It is muffled and only slightly audibled with the mods you mentioned, which are some of the basic mods I have.

can you explain this sound you're talking about? STi's have the weird boxer engine sound, but Evo's don't have it. The only sound you should hear from an Evo at idle or slight revving is the exhaust.

Hmm, ok. The BOV sounded like a weedwhacker? Have you ever used one? Haha. Just don't get a VTA BOV.

Wont really hear the BOV sound of a stock evo unless you purchase and install a aftermarket BOV. This adds no performance. FYI.

ok so you're a tool!!!! relax dude! Instead of taking my ignorance as an opportunity to share your knowledge.....you decided to prove to everyone that the only thing that will make you feel good about yourself is jumping on a newb and an opportunity to show just how selfish you are about your knowledge about cars.
Meanwhile, you're ruining the meaning behind the community assosiated with a forum. Instead of a community you are making it a click

sucks to be you
I hope everyone isnt like this

with that said
my point was or rather my question i propose to the COMMUNITY is "what mods should I avoid so that I don't sound ricey.

I understand that these are a different beast than naturally asperated cars and I don't expect to get the same sound as my 01 ws6 trans am or my 72 Nova

I am new to these cars and I just don't want to waste money on mods that only make sound I want performance

thanks in advance to all those who offer a Non-Toolish repy

Hahahahahahah!!! That's even more funny!

I already told you. Don't get a VTA BOV. Aslo, thicken that skin a little. All I was doing was laughing at the mental image of a car sounding like a weedwhacker, and then thinking how a BOV could never sound anything like a weedwhacker and wondering if you've ever done your own yard work. Lighten up, Francis.

WTF? A little high strung, are we? Don't worry bro: Warrtalon is about nothing if not only selecting mods based on their actual value to the performance of the car, ie. NOT rice!

Quartrlfecrisis, don't take Warrtalon's remarks personal, that's his usual manner of talking. It takes time to get used to his manner of talking, but after some time they are actually, dare I say, quite humorous. It may seem that he is attacking you, but he is just really poking a little fun. Oh, and don't be embarrassed that you might not know what you are talking about in terms of cars and stuff, because the majority of this forum started from where you are right now.

Keep your head up.

You guys are right!!!! I did get a little flustered I did not take into account that this is a well established forum with a constant cycle of new people continuously asking the same questions and bringing silly things to the table

It was a rookie mistake and i take it as a life\learning experience

peace
