PEAK SAFE BOOST on '03 EVO stock internals exc. cams...
Well, I am about to buy an '03 EVO - yellow with the following mods:
HKS 264i/272e cams, Buschur 3" exhaust, Buschur 440 turbo kit upgrade, UTEC piggyback computer, ACT street clutch, Walbro 255L/hr fuel pump.
My questions are these:
Do I have to get it tuned to be reliable/safe? Where in SC can I get this done? Also, what shops reflash the ecu and how much does this cost?
Also, what is the max psi I should run to keep it safe with these mods? This will be my everyday driver once I sell the Civic. I won't keep it there, just turn it up to this psi for races on weekends sometimes. It is now at 22 psi constant, is that okay?? He doesn't drive the car now, he's just holding it for me until the Vic gets sold.
Thanks for all the help, I will be posting here almost daily now that I am "approved" or whatever.

YOu have a big turbo upgrade, so most of us have no idea what your safe boost levels are. You should ask Buschur directly by giving them a call.
Yes, of course you need proper tuning in order to safely drive that car...also, to make the power it should be making, you need proper tuning. There are no flash tuners in SC...in fact, the SC guys are driving down to Atlanta for Dynoflash's tuning trip at TopSpeed. You can drive down there and get a full, custom road tune, which will cost about $399. That is my recommendation to you, because a base mail-in flash will probably not be what you want on such an extreme setup as that.

What about NC? I am right off I-77 and go to Charlotte often, that is why I ask. Thanks alot for the help, bro.
for you
Was this yellow Evo you're about to purchase on Ebay from GA? It sounds like one I was thinking about buying as well...had the same mods, year, and color.
Well, good luck with it if you do end up purchasing it.

Uhm, a UTEC is a tuning device, so that means it should be tuned. That's what piggybacks do...they provide a method for tuning.
No, a sporadic idle is not normal, but cams can cause you to be lopey. 264/272 shouldn't be too lopey, and proper tuning can remove it completely.

Don't worry, fellas, I'm gonna take it straight to the dyno when I get it, and it'll probly see around 400hp, but we'll see.
