Anyone installed the dynamat in their trunk yet? I have a drone from 3-4K and I'm thinking of lining my trunk with it. Any asphalt based stuff are out. I'm looking at RAAMmat just because it's a little cheaper but I need to know if it will make a considerable difference or not at all.

I installed fat-mat in my trunk. It doesn't drone at 80mph like it used to.

I haven't dynamatted my trunk yet, but I tested out some moving blankets ... and they work great! The key culprit in letting noise into the cabin seems to be the rear deck (i.e. where the speakers are mounted. I took a pair of moving blankets and used them to seal off the rear seat and the rear deck and it makes a tremendous difference. If I get some time over the next couple of weeks, I'll work up an installation procedure with pics.

Using dynamat on an RS is defeating the whole purpose of it. That stuff is MAD heavy and it adds up quick as far as weight goes.

My poops weigh more than the fat mat in my trunk. It's not that heavy.

Alright, I'll try to get some shots later. Don't laugh too hard, though ... it's fairly ghetto.

Ok, here's the pic. I usually have one or two more moving blankets draped across the top (where I drew the red ellipses) to stop the noise coming through the rear deck.

To add insult to injury, sound deadening makes for a very poor noise barrier. Deadening is made to control panel resonance; it is not sonic insulation. Mass loaded vinyl, OTOH, is a superb insulator from noise, but it's not light - ~1lb/ft2. If anyone is truly interested in how this works, start here and read every page:

www.sounddeadenershowdown.com

Many folks in this thread seem to think that deadener is a parity product - one is as good as the next. Nothing could be further from the truth. The idea is as absurd as claiming that all turbos are the same. Before plastering one's Evo with the stuff, do yourselves a big favor and look into this beyond forum postings.
