i hope to make the same transition that you did (celica to evo)

Nice car. how much?
Yea, blue is my favorite color, so it had to be EB The wing...don't really like the attention it gathers over here and I prefer the sleeper look on my cars But so far, every fixed up Honda, has been revving on me
Good luck with the switch over, you won't be disappointed Check out this thread for the pricing: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=187546

3 things:

one, you got the SoCal pricing special??? haha you lucky bastard... im from chicago and if i were to buy it, i would seriously consider a delivery service or fly down there to buy it and drive home!

two, what mods did you have on your celica gts?

three, i can't even imagine how much the turning radius must irritate you sometimes... the celica turning radius is the best i've ever driven. period. my buddies know my car is slow as hell so they crack "turning radius races" jokes all the time on me

One: Yup, I got SoCal prices and drove it back up to NorCal Check the pricing thread, there's a guy that bought one and shipped it New Jersey

Two: Check here: http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=149179

Three: Yea, the turning radius sucks...but the power and almost everything else makes up for that hehe!

Congrats! Beautiful! (I'm getting my red SSL tomorrow.) Did you remove the wing yourself, or did South Coast swap deck lids for you? (I'm gonna remove mine and either find someone to swap with or just plug the holes and keep the wing for occasional use.)

I removed the wing myself and covered the holes with clear bra material. I wish they could swap the deck lids, but the RS's don't come in EB My wing is a decorative piece in my living room haha!

Early congrats to you!

congrats on your evo. Mine came wingless since I got the RS. I had it for about 2 months before I had to put the wing on it. It looks good either way. I have to agree it does draw more attention with the wing on. In the end it's a matter of preference. Regardless it's an EVO welcome to the family

Excellent; thanks for the information. I have read countless posts on wing removal but still have two questions: In addition to the screws and tape, people mention some plastic plugs holding on the wing that are hard to remove. Did you encounter those and, if so, how did you remove them? Also, what did you use to remove the glue residue without scratching the paint? Thanks!

I recommend removing it as soon as you get your car, that way, the adhesive won't have time to settle down, i.e. get stickier Easiest way, remove the nuts first, then use a hair dryer to loosen up the tape (about 3-5 minutes depending on the power of your hair dryer). Grab the base of one side of the wing and slowly rock it back and forth. Do one side at a time and have a friend be there, so when you pull the other side off, the wing doesn't move and ruin your trunk's paint job! An old towel or t-shirt also helps protect the paint. Since I removed my wing 4 days after I purchased my Evo, the tape didn't leave much residue

The plastic plugs were a PITA! I used pliers with a piece of paper in-between the edge of the pliers and the trunk. I would also recommend using tape around the tips of the pliers. Pull at all edges and don't be too rough with it, you may end up pulling up the edges of the holes If it doesn't come out, use needle nose pliers and put one side in the plastic hole and gently move it around a bit, an edge should come slightly up. Hope this helps!

Thanks. Those plugs do sound like PITAs. Dayum. I'll try to be extra careful.

I guess you must have, but I assume you removed the (1) nuts first (how many?); (2) plugs second (how many?) and (3) spoiler/tape last, right? Or maybe I'll do the plugs first, so the nuts keep the wing from rocking and pulling up on the plugs.

I really appreciate the tips.

I really appreciate the tips.
1. Remove the nuts, the tape will hold the wing in place
2. Start heating up the area where the wing sits on the trunk, with a hair dryer. I opened up my trunk a little to make it easier to heat the area. Do one side at a time.
3. When the trunk is fairly warm, begin to gently rock the wing loose, a foward and back motion worked for me. Once you have one side up, place a towel or large enough rag underneath the wing support and on top of the trunk.
4. Repeat with other side, and have a friend hold the other side while you are rocking the other side of the wing.
5. If you applied enough heat, the tape should come off with the wing and stay on the wing. If not enough heat was applied, the tape will rip and parts will be left on the trunk and wing.
6. Prying the plastic plugs was the hardest part...just be careful and cover your tools (pliers or whatever you use) with tape on the ends and place a piece of paper/cloth in-between the tool and the plug.
7. Once all has been removed, clean area with rubbing alcohol, then cover with your favorite colored vinyl or clear material. I chose to cut out larger pieces of clear bra material and covered them with one piece. The white you see along the edges of the material is the flash hitting the edge. I just took these a few minutes ago and it's dark outside/in my gargage. See attachments.

Good luck and I hope this works for you

Many thanks, Noel aka Profile. You should get those instructions into the How To section.

I guess I still don't understand these plugs. Maybe I'll see if and when I do it: Are they inserts in the screw holes? Do they attach to the wing? Can you drill them out? I just can't picture them.

No prob, Rod I should have taken pics of my uninstall, but I wasn't thinking at the moment. The plugs are inserts in the screw holes and I wouldn't recommend drilling them out. I'll try to take pics tonight... I guess I should submit it to the "How To..." section... We'll see how much time I have this week.
