Please don't mod your Evos!
Please don't mod your Evos!
Just kidding. Mod away. But I'm about to take delivery of my new red SSL IX tomorrow or the next day: My first Mitsubishi vehicle, and one of the only sedans that's ever turned me on. I've spent a lot of time looking forward to this day, and at least while it's still new I can't imagine changing a darn thing about it.
In some ways, this day has been coming for over three years, since that's when I saw my first Evo. At that time, I went with the RX-8, which is a great car, but now I'm following my heart, not my mind, and going for what really tickles my tonsils.
A lot of the reason I love the Evo is because, right out of the box, it is so tricked-out already. As a long-time Miata owner who's had four Miatas and modded all of them, I can tell you (and you know already) that in performance terms the Evo is already what most enthusiast car owners dream of:
Which is really to say -- I can't wait for mine.

- Engine: Well, jeeze, I mean, come on: Huge front-mounted intercooler; over 1 Bar of boost, forged connecting rods, hollow camshafts, magnesium valve cover -- the Evo engine is already, bone stock, what most power-hungry enthusiasts would kill for!
- Brakes: Huge Brembo brakes; red calipers; world-class stopping distances -- what more do you need?!
- Suspension: Forged suspension arms; inverted dampers -- maybe you'd upgrade to MR Bilsteins for more compliance, but the suspension's already awesome.
- Wheels and tires: Big, light, super-grippy -- it's all good.
- Bad-*** steering wheel, seats, shifter, pedals -- Check.
- Phat exhaust -- Check.
- Body: Nice front and rear bumper covers; aluminum hood and fenders -- Yeah, baby.
Which is really to say -- I can't wait for mine.

Thanks, guys. Yeah; I had to have the sunroof and the HIDs. The leather, stereo and foglights are just welcome bonuses. (I have never had leather before and always wanted it, so I'm pretty stoked.) My local dealer matched South Coast prices, plus $500, so I'm good.

Thanks, guys! And yeah, Ike, I'm Hard 8 over there! But as you can see, I have yielded to the power of the dark side. I didn't know you had an Evo!

And I'm getting the SSL, not the MR, because I wanted the sunroof and upgraded stereo. Otherwise I would have gone MR.

That's great. All I'm saying is, damn, it's freaking awesome bone stock. Enjoy what you already have, if you can manage it.
