Couple Questions - BOV

Ok, a couple newb questions. I've been reading some posts and checking around on the internet, but I still feel that I don't quite get this.

From what I've read... a blow-off valve exists to keep the turbocharger from pushing too much pressure into the cylinders and damaging the engine (or the turbo). I also read somewhere that you can use a BOV to blow excess pressure out of the turbo when the trottle-plate closes so the turbo continues to spin after you take your foot off of the gas (so it doesn't have to spool up from a stop next time you step on the gas).

So... I see a lot of people on these boards talking about BOVs and many that have them... and I'm wondering what people are using them for when they put one into an EVO... and is it an essential part of a highly moddified EVO?

I'm still learning... but I understand getting a bigger exhaust (let the exhaust flow faster to spin the turbine wheel faster). Then I can see making the intake beefier (more air out means more air in). Then obviously you need an upgraded fuel pump (more air pressure in... means more fuel in and faster). Then you need a tune to adjust your Air to fuel ratio. Beyond that.... I'm kind of lost. Any tips would be appreciated.

Your EVO has a DV stock. What's the question? You don't sound like you have searched at all.... or know anything about your car.

Search!, but anyway: The BOV lets pressure out when the throttle plate closes to prevent the boost from going back to the turbo and slowwing it down or damaging it from the backpressure.

My car is stock and it's going to stay stock for a while. I'm becoming interested in the way that turbo aspirated engines work, and I'm curious what people are using BOV's for. I'm trying to learn here... and this is the Newbie forum. I feel that my question was legitimate and reasonably educated compared to a lot of the posts I see in this forum.

But thanks for reminding why I don't post here much: ****** like you.

Before you get informed by a certain member on here, let me just be the first to say that you will not need a new BOV unless your stock one is seriously leaking or you are running a lot more boost than stock. I'm at nearly 21 psi with no problems on the stocker. Stick to the other mods you listed first and read around here for a while. You'll get a lot of good tips on your modding preferences before you'd ever need a new BOV. Hope this helps, and welcome!

Hey genius, you have a BOV STOCK.....

You need to take a searching and reading class, English obviously owns you.

Ask a specific, well thought out question and I'll gladly let you know what I know.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I went to howstuffworks.com and looked up turbos before I got my car. I was like you and really curious. I remember there being some clear and simple info there. Might want to try there as well as reading the posts around here.

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but that was pretty harsh. It's people like you that are giving this forum a bad rep. He even posted in the Newbie forum! Give him a break... Don't come to this forum if you just want to shove insults at the new guys.

Take it easy champ. You know, you don't have to look at newb posts that **** you off. I'm sure since you are so awesome, you have better things to be doing anyways.

Also, people don't have to know everything about the car they buy. My mom drives a nice *** mercedes, but she doesn't know jack squat about it. Maybe you want her email address so you can ***** her out too.

Come on dude. He's is trying to learn.

Stop being such a *****. The guy is just trying to find out about his car. His question was newb-sih, but guess what, this is the newbie forum so its fine. At least its not the typical "how do I make my car g PPppssssshhhhhhhhh" question. You're trying to be like Warrtalon but your not even close, he's helpful, you're not.

Blow me?

If your mom had a question, I would tell her to search too, if that information was ALREADY ON THE SITE SHE WAS VIEWING.

It's not that hard, ladies. Use the search function. That's what it's there for.

If you don't know that your car even HAS a DV stock, you sholdn't be in that car.

I'm not trying to be like anyone, but thanks. The blow job offer is extended to you as well.

Any moderator would agree with me. Use the search button. That's what it's there for. This isn't a tough concept.
