New IX Break-In?
New IX Break-In?
First off, I'm new to the forum. Greetings to all!
I live in Denver and am planning to buy a new IX from South Coast Mitsubishi. The question is: Should I have the new Evo shipped to Denver or should I fly to Cali. and drive it back (1,100 Miles)? My concerns with driving the Evo back are in jumping on the highway and driving it right out of the box at highway speeds and trying not to exceed 5,000 rpm for 1,100 miles in mostly 5th gear. Is this type of break-in bad for the engine/tranny?
Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks to all.

I cruise on the highway at 70-80 running about 3-3400 rpms so thats not a problem. You want to kind of get on the gas, off the gas boosting as much as possible. Try not to keep it at a steady rpm for the first 500 mi.
There are literally hundreds of break in threads here. Search and you'll find other opinions.

I wasn't exactly driving my car hard but I wasn't driving it soft either during the break in (1,000 miles) I made sure to give it some boost but never went over 4-5k rpm. I have 15,000 miles and my IX is performing flawlessly.
Breaking it in with normal driving is ideal. Constant speed at high RPM is not what you want to do when breaking in a new motor.
I'm sure you can vary your speed during that drive since i've taken it myself before in previous vehicles. I'll tell you right now that such a long drive in a new evo will be very tireing. I was DRAINED after my 7 hour drive home from las vegas last month.
