Difference between stock stereo system and SSL system?

is it only the sub woofer? or is there more to it, like better speakers all around?

if the sub the only major thing, would it be easy to install a sub on a non-SSL equip IX?

the sub comes w/ an amp correct?

I don't feel like buying anything big and fansy,.. just a little more watts and bass would do me good. stock sub would be good.

thanks.

EVO 8/9 has a 160watt 4 speakers, 2 tweaters system no sub.

EVO 8/9 SSL comes with 200+ watt 4 slightly better speakers, 2 tweaters w/ a sub and is amplified.

i have an ssl IX, the infinity radio is 315 watts not 200,upgraded speakers(slightly) with the 10 inch sub woofer. There is a noticable difference in sound but really not that much to brag about, but it does sound better than my 03 did

I think it would be too big of a hassle. The head unit is different too, because it is designed to work with the amp. I *think* the amp runs all the speakers, not just the sub, so I don't think the HU has any onboard amplification, just preamp output to the amplifier only. So integrating the factory amp to the base sound system would be impossible, or costly and pointless.

Yeah the sound system on the ssl is completely different than the non ssl sound system. They don't share any similarities. I think it would be too difficult to equip a non ssl evo with the ssl sound system. You'd be better off just getting a new headunit, amp, and sub. The ssl subwoofer is only 8 inches not 10. However it's definitely the best stock sound system I have ever heard in a car. I put a 10 inch subwoofer in ever car I ever owned but my stock ssl sound sytem blows everything else away. The best part about it is that I don't have a gaudy headunit.

I got the IX with SSL and am pretty much replacing the entire sound system since its not up to the quality I want. the "upgraded" infiniti speakers are terrible quality paper cones with tiny magnets and have lifeless sound. I upgraded the factory deck to a Clarion Pro Audio deck the first week i had the car, then added a SoundStream Reference 500s amp and two 12" subs. This coming wednesday i'm receiving two sets of Boston Acoustics SL60 6.5" Component speakers which will be powered by my current sub amp. I just received a SoundStream Reference 1000s amp which will be moved to power my subs properly.

here are the components. They sound very very nice. http://www.bostonacoustics.com/car/c...product_id=293

i dont care whether it's SSL or non SSL upgrade your sounds...both are inadequate compared to anything aftermarket. trust me on this one.

Both stock and SSL systems cover up the Mitsu squeaks and rattles if you turn them up high enough

I have the SSL system, the sound is adequate for me, but I definitely think the HU sucks. I am in the process of figuring out how to wedge in a Kenwood HU (easy) with an under/in the dash Music Keg (hard). I'll post pictures when I do it.

Sure the "radio" will work and power the speakers but without the power of a multi-channel amp the mids and tweeters will sound like crap... just go aftermarket you will be much better off...
