New owner questions

I recently picked up a WW IX MR and I have a couple questions.

I noticed that inside my fenders, there is a layer of black goop that looks like it was used to cover up any white paint that the plastic fender pieces don't cover. It got all over the nice yellow Bilstein shocks. Did this come from the factory, or did some retard at the dealer do this?

Also, every time I shut a door with all the windows up, there's a metallic rattle that comes from the trunk area. It's pretty annoying. Is this normal and any suggestions for where it's coming from or how to fix it?

No, Factory I think did this to help with rock and sound deadening. Take it to a pressure washer, hose it out.

As for that sound, inside the trunk on the left side, inside the compartment, down inside is a rubber flat vent. When the doors are shut the air pressurises the air through these "rubber flapper vents." Might be it????
Check your bag with the lug wrench & jack hook, too.

Hey, I notice a similar noise except that I can hear it when I close the rear passenger or driver's side doors. Sounds like something in the trunk rattling. But now that you mention it, it does almost sound like a flap opening and closing quickly. Thanks for the info.

At least you have bright yellow Bilsteins.

I looked in the trunk and found the flapper vents. That's exactly what it sounds like. I also found windshield washer fluid on the other side.
