definitely impressed... i've of course heard how fast they were but i didn't quite expect them to be that fast. i wasn't able to push either of the cars to my liking. the sti was test driven in a fairly small parking lot and the evo was driven on a gas tank which empty light had turned on. i was able to get into boost however on both cars and despite everyone saying how much faster the evo is, it didn't seem very noticible in stock form... so i gotta a dilemma... my question is if the talk that has been going on is true... do stis really dyno in at 220 whp while the evo dynos in at roughly 300 whp with a catback exhaust, reflash, and tune? becuz i really don't feel the difference. and my second question is if stis dyno in at 220 whp then what does a evo ix dyno in stock? plz answer my questions.. thanks in advance

You seem to already have picked the STI. Performance differences are negligible unless you want to mod the car.

evo has a better engine, evo takes to mods MUCH better, evo handles WAY better IMO the evo looks WAY better too.

i dont know the dyno numbers but for me its no contest

i knew somebody would say that but the truth is i'm really not sure yet. its about 60-40... i do plan on modding but no major work like a swapped turbo or anything, the basics... exhaust, intake, reflash, tune. thanks for the reply

The evo will win hands down over an sti with those mods.... Also if you watch top gear's comparisons between evos and sti's....the sti undertseers like it's its job.
There are about as many STis out there as civics these days. The evo has mor potential ....

stis dyno at around 250-260whp. evo9s dyno at about 260-270whp. and an evo9 is a far easier car to mod and make fast(cheaper and easier). i like both cars, Ive ridden in both cars. I like the stis interior a little bit more, but the evos seats are more supportive. I and others have made my choice, whatever you choose, it will be a good choice

You have all your numbers and facts mixed, plus you seem to not realize the difference between a car that's stock and one that has all those mods you listed. Evos can pick up 70whp with those mods you listed, so that makes a huge difference. In stock form, the difference is negligible. The only significant stock difference is with the Evo IX, because it is faster than all previous Evos and all STis by as much as 20-30whp. Plus, with basic mods, the IX gains even MORE WHP than any previous Evo or STi, too. eVO ixS CAN GET to power levels on pump gas and stock cams that STi's can only get to with an upgraded turbo.

PS. Read my sig for details on modded Evo power numbers and the associated mods.

yeah i've heard that in a number of places, stis outnumber evos by a lot, but over here theres a good number of both but i would say evos outnumber stis by a lot

wow 250-260 whp seems a bit high for the stis... when i said 220 whp stock that was information given to me directly from the sti camp. where did u get ur info from? glad to hear that u like both, really makes me feel that i can't go wrong with either. becuz my main reason for posting this thread is becuz i don't want to end up regretting my purchase later on and then taking the big monetary hit

I've never seen nor heard of STis doing 250-260whp stock on any dyno.

The STI is going to feel faster in daily driving because of the torque from the extra 0.5 L. However, even the 05 evo actually does quite well against the STI when you compare the entire power bands:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...namometer.html

From the MT article: "Nevertheless, we can't help but suspect either the Mitsubishi is underrated at 276-crank horsepower or the Subaru is overrated at 300 horsepower."

The evo handles better, takes to mods better, has more interior space and looks waaaaaay better IMO.

If you keep the cars stock, its a toss up, pick the one that suits you.

Modded, the evo is superior, unless you are building a racecar, in which case you wouldn't buy a new car anyways.

I am amazed at the power my evo IX makes with a tbe, mbc, and tune. I ran 111mph last weekend even though I later discovered I had a significant boost leak and I was obviously frying the stock clutch even after only 1 run (smells GREAT!).

thanks for your reply warrtalon. i've seen you on the sti boards and have noticed that u previously owned a sti. i was wondering if u ever worry about the reliability? becuz as much arguement that goes into this topic and how many people come with success stories, from what i see there are a lot more people who have problems with their evos when compared to people with problems with their stis. another big reason keeping me from buying the evo is becuz of the reliability...

see... comments like the one drsmile just made scare me read above two posts ^^^ boost leak, minor problems like that seem to always happen. i can't say that i'm completely competant when it comes to cars, so something like that could go undetected for me.

on mustang dynos STi's put out about 250 whp...like everyone else said stock vs stock it's all about feel...whether you want neck-snapping torque or the more realistic full on turbo rush of the evo...both are great cars...if you intend on modding the evo is probably the way to go

well everyone is going to be biased on this because this IS a evo forum, but both cars are very simliar, powerwise, somewhat exterior and interior. when it comes down to it, its all on personal preference.
