I've been watchin the STi's And the EVO's "battle" for the longest time....I've driven in both cars. A heavily modded STi but, I haven't been in heavily modded evo....I'd take an evo anyday over an STi....There just that level of fun that I didn't feel in the STi. The only real thing I reallllly reallllllllllllllly like about the STi is the exhuast note....I just love it....otherwise I could careless

I believe you should pick the car that you feel most comfortable in and can really see yourself having fun on all sorts of level not witch one is faster than the other. There's so much **** out there you can buy to make it faster than other. Alllllll depends on how much you wanna dish out to do it.

Just my 2 cents

The Evo's seem to respond better to mods. If that is your only deciding factor in the car, then the answer is pretty easy.
If you are considering doing your own work on the car, than the answer is even easier. Ever seen a WRX/STi engine bay? I spent oooh 9 hours yesterday to this morning returning a buddy's WRX to stock. That is the absolute last time I ever spend any sort of time under the hood of a WRX. And so I could never own one.

its not bias. Do some research and check out how much power you can get out of an sti on stock turbo. Compare that to an evo9 with 2 mods, full turbo back and a good flash. Even on 91 soem evo 9s are making arround 310whp on mustang dynos. On race gas that number goes up to arround 345ish. (without pushing it) An sti would come up arroud 45 whp short of this. If you care about getting a super fast car for next to nothing then get an evo 9. If comfort is more your thing get the sti. Look up some of the drag times. There are guys on these forums that are cutting low 12s with 2 mods on an evo9 and mid 11s on race gas (all on stock turbo and intercooler) It is impossible to get an sti to run mid 11s on stock turbo. Unless nitrous is used. Compare the facts and decide what suits you more and go with it.

Im serious man. When I went to the Subaru dealership to trade my 350Z for an STi, no ones helping me. Every sales person are so busy and just ignoring me. So I went across the street to the Mitsu Dealership, there I met Mark of South Coast. After that we became very good friends. But still, Im still dreaming of that STi.

Evos are nice cars. Cheaper to mod, responds to mods better than the STi. But I just want a stock car thats why I want an Sti.

Dude, everytime I tell people Sti was my my first choice, 10 out of 9 says, Nah... Evos are nicer and much more better.

The two cars are almost the same in every category, its just a pesonal preference IMO.

get a STI, that way people who actually have done their research and know that the evo is better, they can go get one cause there will be one more in stock!

save an evo for a person that understands the capibility of one, and will enjoy one!

get your sti and have your transmission problems and bad seats

jemjow, i have friends with 05, turbo upgraded stis with tons of mods that would trade you plus cash for you 06. Its sad that you dont know what an amazing car you have. Get a flash take off your mbc and call it a day. You can even put ur stock exhaust back on and still pick up 35whp with just the flash only and your car will be just like stock.

I want an 06 STi with the same miles, 4000 miles. All stock. Straight swap

I love the evo, dont get me wrong. I just feel that this car is not for me. Too fast for me. This car is so aggressive. The Sti is kinda lay low.

just go with your gut feeling. i did and i got a 9 MR. after riding in an STi, i thought that was what i wanted. but after test driving an evo, the evo suited my preference. plus, i like the interior better on the evo that the STi.

They are both nice cars and ultimately comes down to what you really like. If the 9 never came out, i probably would have gotten the STi. choosing an Sti or Evo is like choosing heinz ketchup or del monte ketchup...imo.

but i say get an Evo =>

That's absurd. Maybe 210-220whp on a MD. If they put down 250whp anywhere, it's on a Dynojet, and that's the MAX. Not all MD's read the same, but to say they typically put down 250whp on an MD is just ridiculous. For reference, stock Evos put down 215whp or less on Buschur's MD.

stock vs stock i think either cars would be a good choice... if you doing constant city/heavy traffic driving then i would get an STI because of the much bettter low end torque... but if you want a car thats a pure drivers car thats not soften for "real world" driving then evo is without a doubt the way to go... but since u said your going to mod you would see a much bigger difference wit the evo especially after the flash... but IMO the evo was better just because i dont like substitution... i bought the car to drive it hard not to enjoy the interior features... so either way you cant go wrong.... its what you want and need the car for....
