Common Noises in the Evo? Experienced owners plz reply
i don't think an evo is a quiet car by nature.
you have a lot going on down there. you've an lsd front end, ACD, rear lsd... LOTS of gears transferring energy to the wheels. i'm surprised it's as quiet as it is... should be a LOT louder.

+1
oh man, that throw out bearing drives me crazy when im at drive thru windows and i let out the clutch! It echoes off the walls and the people look at me all crazy
o well, what can i expect? almost 60k miles and stock clutch still.
then theres the little rattle that comes from the drive side pillar piece of trim.
and then when braking sometimes, i get a weird clicking noise. anyone had this problem?
other than that, car is pretty solid.

My WRX made noises too, and I'm fine w/ that, but nothing like this...in other words I am familiar w/ the $30k "noise package" that comes with rally cars
mdsevo06 - The car goes in tomorrow so I'll make sure to hop on and let you know what the deal is.
Cheers all!
good points LT. i wasn't attempting to play down your concern, really just generalizing some of the other statements in the thread.
i would be concerned about sounds like what you are describing as well.

I appreciate it LT, I'm really curious what they find.
I've driven many different vehicles and you can recognize a bearing noise. It's just a matter of which one, with out going through the process of elimination.
I'm not looking forward to dropping mine off as well, I never fell comfortable having the dealer touch it.

Mine's still almost new, with about 1,900 miles on it. What I notice:
- Faint whistle on full boost (waste-gate?).
- Occasional sharp clicking from steering wheel leather as I move my hands around; perhaps it's ever-so-slightly pulling loose from the underlying metal frame.
- Throw-out bearing rattle in neutral with clutch out.
Oh man, I'm like a one man soap opera today.
I get to the car, I've got a ticket for not properly adhering my parking sticker to my window >.< $40 for not adhering my sticker properly to the back of my car window?!?!?!
And then on the way to the dealer I curb rash my back rim going around a corner...
Wheres the "vexed" emotioncon here?
Oh well it is a Monday I guess.
Thanks for everyones input on this, I really appreciate it. I'll make sure to post up tomorrow night when I find out what the deal was...of course I'm sure they'll call tomorrow saying they havent heard sh*t

OK - so I just got the call from the shop:
Basically the timing belt and the balance belt are rubbing against each other because the crankshaft blade is "ouside its tolerance" and pushing them into each other.
Translation, when Mitsu was putting the car together they either used either a defective crankshaft blade or used so much force that it bent it and thus "put it outside its tolerance".
Although they say there wasnt any damage done to the car's engine b/c the belts still did what they had to do and the "noise" was just a consequence of them rubbing against each other I am sure as hell glad I brought this to their attention. Breakin noise my a$$.
Part is being overnighted and I'll get her back tomorrow.
Welcome to the Mitsu family?!?!
Lt. Boomstick
PS: If you need me I might be cryiing under my desk.
