Warm Up Noises in the Evo? Experienced owners plz reply
In my old WRX there were of course several noises that came from the engine bay that were just common and part of the car. I could hear the belts, especially on cold days and now I can start hearing things from the engine bay of the MR.
It kind of sounds like maybe a pully or something along the lines of a 1920's car w/ a sputtering exhaust (the car itself isnt sputtering, no rough idel or anything) and I am wondering if this is just common.
Does this car just noisy when ideling?
Thanks

Bearing Noise
The only noise that is unexpected out of my IX, seems to be a bearing noise. It sounds like the Tensioner or Idler bearing is bad, but only when the engine is cold and only for the first few minutes. This is also only when it's ideling, guess I'll be taking it to the dealer soon.

One more thing you'll notice.. if you rev the car to 5k + and with enough throttle to hit boost, you'll see it rev down verrrrry slowly. It's an emissions control "feature".
under hard driving, it's common to have a thump from the rear carrier bearing on shifting. also common to get a pop of thump sound from the spring seats on the stock shocks when going over speedbumps or around corners slowly.
How about when the car is warming up? I swear I hear a pully or something when I'm ideling at a light. I mean it goes away after 10 minutes when the car is warmed up...any other MR 06's hear this?

The only thing that I hear when the car is warming up is a fairly loud whine from the engine compartment. From what I've read on evom, its the ps pump, but I haven't bothered to verify it yet.

Anyone else hear anything after they start the car, drive it for like a block or two then idel at a stop light?
if you think its your fuel pump, just pull up the back seat bottom (2-tabs) look at the lil metal square shield and put your ear to it,
other noises- sometimes lifters tap even with stock cams when cold, brakes squel, clunking when shifting

I found out what it was.
After getting sick and tired of hearing it I throw open the hood and found that it was the belts and pulleys on the left hand side of the engine.
Anyone else hear this god forsaken noise or am I the only one lucky enough to buy a new car and have an issue w/ it?
I'm calling the shop now (better safe then sorry).

I think we're experiencing the same noise. It's either one of the accessory pulleys (bad bearing) or the ballance shaft bearing, which would be worse. I'm not going to be able to bring it in for a couple of weeks, would be curious what they find on yours. Keep us posted.
after 20km miles of abuse the only regular odd noises I have, are the clicking noise which sounds like the injectors, and a whine like bad belts....... and of course the usual TOB rattle like noise.

I haven't heard anything that terrible. I hope the shop can locate the noise and fix it.
