I'll let you know if an up/down pipe and catback clears up the lag. Sad to hear my suby and it's akward rear suspension doesn't hold a candle to the Evo. But it's got enough grip to keep me entertained for days.

An up-pipe will clear up a lot of the lag that you're having. Just a pain to install. It was a night and day difference on my 02 wrx. Downpipe is icing on the cake. It's still not the most efficient turbo, but those mods with a reflash are a step in the right direction.

I'd seriously consider upgrading your brakes though. The stock ones are not enough for the car IMO.

Truth be told, it's not all that quick, but it's nice nonetheless.

Here I'll actually give you some useful information ..
The 2.5 STi block is a open deck . The 4g63 in the evo is a closed block . I believe its cast and not aluminum like the STi block. The 16g on the Evo turbo is much bigger than the vf series in the STi.

Also with the EG25t being open deck - if you want to make some serious power people upgrade there blocks =\ ...

Yeah, I agree, suby made a mistake with the base 02-05 WRX brakes. The 06's are supposed to be much improved w/ 4 pot/2 pot front/rear.

Thanks to everyone for their insight and I'm glad you've got such impressive cars. The STi has been my dream machine back when I first saw it in a magazine like 6 years ago. The WRX is just to tide me over till I get the money. Evos are terrific (have yet to drive one, let me know if anyone wants volenteer theirs for a few minutes ), but I need my boxer rumble and goofy hood scoop.

All I can say is that I never really liked the pancake motor. Just not reliable enough for me. And parts and mods are a pain in the a$$.
