BooHoo .....
Hi.. Before you all start bashing me I want you to understand this... I am a big fan of your cars.. Ive only been into the import scene as an owner for the last 4 months.. and prior to that I just followed the scene as an interested observer. I am an old man by your standards at least. And until may 07, i was into gm american muscle. The last car I had and I actually sold was my 70 ss chevelle bb.. I had that for over 11 years.. What brought me to the dark side was the fact that being a car person, I wanted to have and enjoy something all year round.. I wanted all the performance your two cars, the evo and sti stood for, and I wanted it all the time.. Now here I am, driving and reading, and learning all this new tech.. As much as I love my sti, I am learning more and more about evos as well. In a funny way I think the more I learn about evos the more difficult a choice would become.. My license plate is a figment of my immagination in that its meant to be funny.. I recently had a chance to cavaran to Englishtown for the evo wrx shootout.. We had a blast, about twenty, mostly subys but a few evos guys and girls, some young, some (me) old.. I felt like I was twenty again.. These cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed and to that end is what Im doing. So, if you see me, smile, because thats exactly what Im doing.. See ya.. A older fan..phil
OMG should've kept the chevelle AND bought a new car
I agree that STi/EVO does make you feel like a menacing juvenile, more so than s2000 at least from my experience.
No one will bash you either because of your age or because that you own an STi
If you want to try another different experience, you should look into kit cars, for $30k, you can get a pretty decent spec caterham or ariel atom. I wouldn't have them as the only car though.

With some modification I don't see why not. Ariel Atom uses K20A from Integra Type-R (just RSX-S with higher compression and higher redline), so the engine is mounted transversely. Lotus Elise can be swapped from Toyota's 2ZZ-GE (Celica engine) to K20A with relatively minor mods to the engine bay. Only problem is turbo and intercooler position.
I don't see the need though. The stock K20A 220hp version is already blindingly fast, and it's not to hard to achieve 250whp by removing cat, updating the intake and flashing the ecu. The torque curve is quite fat for a high revving NA car thanks to its i-VTEC. 300hp supercharging option is also available.
4G63T will be way too much torque (Evo spec) for the tiny car, especially if has turbo upgrade. The car will be doing too much wheely and will have traction issues. High revving NA is perfect choice for a lightweight car for immediate response and 'manageable' horsepower.

Hey a local!
I'm a Long Islander also, Used to live in Melville, now I'm out in Shirley.I was a HARDCORE Muscle-car guy, and I'm 37.. If you look around at some of my posts, I'm pretty good with the Evo now too.
I wanted to relate an experience I had last night.. I still have my 78 malibu, Its monster horsepower, and always seems to have something wrong with it, something falling apart, or something annoying me. After I take the car out for a cruise, I always think to myself "why do I keep this car around when I enjoy driving the evo so much more"
Enjoy the import muscle.. We're currently smack in the middle of a new muscle-car era, but most of us don't realize that its the same exact scenario as the original muscle car wars.. ENJOY the friendly banter and ribbing for owning the "enemy"

BTW, drop me a PM, there are some gettogethers still going on besides DPA and the morons street racing.

Hey Phil.....I'm 55 yrs old...The newer cars are way fun..you don't get so dirty when you modify them...grimey fingerprints on the laptop sure beats the "old way"...and the looks from our "friends in performance" are worth everything....."excuse me for asking is that REALLY your car"??????? Pete
yes its mine.. I have alot of dreams in mind for her, but alas.. the next step is the big one,, green turbo, aps front mount, injectors, fuel pump dadada another metric tune, then and then and then and.. phil.. Anyone going to Englishtown
I'm an older Evo and STI owner as well.. well I dont really think 37 is old.. but I've been called old man a time or two. Welcome to EvoM! I kindof feel like a suby traitor because I dont frequent the Subaru forums other than an occaisional visit to Enginuity to keep up with tuning info. Don't feel guilty for drving such a great machine.. I have two small children and there is nothing else that even comes close to an Evo or STi that offers the level of practicality and price point that I desire.
