I just looked at the WORKS site, and they want 130 bucks for a drop in panel????

Holy Cow

Is it worth the extra 70 bucks over the K&N?

I got it for a 100, and yes, I think its worth it considering it has a larger surface area and doesn't come overoiled from the factory.

No, I recommend this http://www.amsperformance.com/store/...roducts_id=170, just remove the stock air box filter, bolt the adapter up to the mass air, and there you go!

I'm also selling mine, which I ordered from AMS. I no longer need this k&n filter with adapter, because I'm going with the AMS GT35R setup, make me an offer if your interested, filter looks brand new like the day it came out the box.

If it's just a drop in filter, just use the k&n. It does the same thing. Not worth spending the extra money.

i have heard that the k&n actually lose horsepower compared to the stocker. on the nine's at least. the surface area is not as big. i think dynoflash had problems tuning for the k&n. i had a reputable shop tell me just to keep the stocker.

I actually have an HKS RS, and I've heard over and over the stock airbox setup is actually the best. If I had bought my car with a stock airbox, Id give you my opinion, but I didnt. Might be beter off staying stock unless u r making over 400whp.

Any drop-in is benecial but the WORKS one has the largest surface area and I personally recommend it. Spending that extra cash is your decision but in the end they're all about the same.

I just ordered the works filter, and to be quite honest, I'd rather spend the extra cash on a more quality piece. That price ALSO includes the cleaning kit for the filter, it's not like just some throw away filter, you reuse it just like most the open air elements with most other kits, once you factor in the price of a cleaning kit for the k&n panel as well, then the prices start to look alot more similar... The stock air intake is the best for your evo if you are running a stock sized turbo, otherwise look elsewhere, but as for the stock airbox filter setup, works has the best on the market in my opinion, i havent seen the graphs... but works was claiming a 9hp gain with thier filter on a stock evo if i'm not mistaken.

The stock airbox is enough until you are pushing serious power on the car. Some people have also reported having idling issue when the stock airbox is replaced because apparently these aftermarket air filters can affect the MAF sensor which is pretty sensitive.

It's also not a bad idea to get a tune if you're replacing the stock airbox since I've heard that your A/F ratio can lean a bit on the higher rpm range. My $0.02.

AFAIK, the stock filter and the stock airbox are the best unless you are going with crazy mods. My experience with K&N filters is mixed. I think that maybe they are good filters and all, but in my turbo Miata and in the EVO VIII, those leak oil into the intake tract. In the Miata, the tubes going to the turbo got covered with oil. In the EVO, the intake box got oily as well. I think the oil can interfere with the air flow sensor. I imagine any other filter system similar to the K&N will have the same characteristics... I think that the stock filter is probably as good as you need from a filter standpoint as well as from flowing enough air..

My $.02
