NEWBIE to the EVO, and, turbos in general.
hey there.
i recently made a purchase of a new Evolution IX MR. Prior to this car i had a Comptech Supercharged S2000 and a 03' Nissan 350z; both cars were heavily modified with much attention paid to suspension and other handling components.
with my evo, however, i have a different picture of how I'd like to see this car in the future. First off, im going to try and keep this car for a very long time, probably until its totalled. i do plan i buying the new Evo once it goes into its second or early third year of production, and at that time, i want this Evo (IX) to become a dedicated track car. my questions are vast and mainly concern with my lack of knowledge with turbo cars.
first, i want to be able to put down between 330-350 whp without hurting the cars reliability much. i am willing to replace everything from the block down to the stock muffler (manifold, turbo, downpipe, midpipe). i want to keep this car not to loud. on the intake side, id like to retain the stock intercooler and its piping unless it begins to stress other components of the drivetrain. i also have no need to replace the stock BOV or wastegate and will try to avoid these mods. as much as possible- can i get away with this while acheiving my horsepower goal?
so my question really is, what are the recommend parts or package available that will satisfy my goal? can i get away with not replacing the OE muffler, BOV, and wastegate and maybe the intercooler?
id like to keep most of the mods. on the high-er end of the JDM scale (HKS, ARC, APS, ect.), but don't limit your suggestions to that.
i want to see this car remain externally stock looking, while boosting straight-line performance. i am familiar with this suspension so ill keep my questions concerning that area till i do some mods. there.
thanks, i look forward to your replies.

You can easily reach all your goals with my very inexpensive package, except that you DEFINITELY have to replace the stock muffler (and rest of the exhaust). You have no need to touch the BOV, the FMIC, the IC piping, the intake, nor the wastegate. They all work wonderfully well up to and beyond 350whp. Luckily for you, the IX is incredibly powerful and even more powerful when modded with just the basics.
View the package in my sig and see that you can get to the 330+whp mark with $1270 spent total, or you can upgrade to a custom flash ($200 more) when Dynoflash comes down to florida in July in order to get up to 340-350whp (Dynojet).

o man. your a big help. could you detail exactly what the kits includes? also with 330-350, what will i have to worry about? clutch? cooling? also if i dont race, what benefit is a turbo timer? id like to do as little splicing and custom fabricated to this vehicle as possible. essentially it must fool even the trained eye, into thinking this is a plain stock evo.

As mentioned, the link is in my sig, and that has EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of the package and how to order it.
You won't fool many when you have a boost gauge and 3" exhaust. The gaue will be on the streeing column, so it won't be gaudy, and the exhaust tip is stock-sized, so maybe you can paint the whole muffler/tip black.
AT 330-350whp, cooling is no issue, but you will likely need to replace the clutch pretty soon unless you never race or drive hard. You won't ever need a turbo timer, whether you race or not. Just don't shut the car down immediately after running hard under boost.

i read the details for the kit.
question: can i order the kit without the gauge and gauge pod? since i have the MR do any of these mods render my stock boost gauge useless? can i order the turboback and MBC seperately? also how does the MBC work? i assume this is called a "manual boost controller" what is required by me other than installing it, to make it work? (im stuck on that word "manual" kinda freaking me out.)

No, you can't, but you can sell those parts new on here if you wish. The reason why the kit can't be changed is because the discounts are tied into each part.
Also, your stock BOV only goes to 21.75psi, so that won't be enough. It also is very small and hard to read, but it does work fine. None of these mods will render your gauge useless - all the stock gauges will continue to work.
You can order everything separately, of course, but you will pay more and not get free shipping.
The MBC is simple. You install it, then go set your boost where you want it - 22psi is recommended for a IX on 93oct with a base flash.

sorry for asking:
is the MBC electronic? could you link me to a website that has a picture of it?
also are there any BOVs on the market, that you know of, that will work with this kit while remaining virtually as quiet as stock?

If it were electronic, then it would be an electronic boost contoller (EBC).
THis is a manual boost controller - MBC.
I already told you that there is no need to upgrade the BOV. The stocker is awesome and holds up to 25psi. You already said you didn't want to change the BOV, so why are you asking if there's one that will work and stay quiet as stock? You already have one that works and is quiet as stock, because it IS stock. It would be a gratuitous waste of money to purchase one.

Manual Boost Controller = MBC
Electronic Boost Controller = EBC
so no its not electronic but you don't need a ebc
the taper is a safety feature so if you got a AVCR lets say you will have a smaller margin of safety and to tell you the truth the taper is not very noticeble after the dynoflash on a IX
