Is the Lancer Es Body same as EVO 9 Body?
Hey guys I need some professional help...I’m in Canada and as some might know we can’t drive Evo's up here…I’m not sure for what reason, so I wanted to convert a Lancer Es or Lancer Raliart or the Lancer OZ - into an Evolution 9. I need to know if the body is the same with these cars. I would only be keeping the Lancer Es body and putting in everything else from Lancer Evolution 9. If anyone can answer any of these questions, I would be grateful. Or if you have any other suggestions on how to have an Evo in Canada- I'm listening

I can't import an Evo here its illegal...different standards here than in the US. That’s why the 2003 model didn't come to Canada. They will be allowing the Evo X in 2008. Not the best looking car in my opinion. I don’t really want an Evo 5 heh. Does anyone know if the body of the Lancer is the same as the Evos? I can easily find a wrecked Lancer OZ and use it as my base. I would also bring in a wrecked Evo IX and salvage the parts. Where would I be able to obtain this info?
They're not the same body. The Evo is re-enforced in multiple areas and has additional spot welds to stiffen the chassis.
You might be better off trying to find a evo chassis and putting the lancer VIN on it.

Find all the areas where the VIN is located on the vehicle (dash plate for example), yank them off a Lancer and rivet (or however it's attached) them on the Evo chassis.
Not exactly legal, but that's how some people get around licensing a vehicle for street use. I remember a motortrend article from several years ago where a guy put some headlights, tail lights and blinkers on a sprint car, slapped a Model A Ford VIN on it, got a plate and started driving it on the street. The Model A VIN got him around all the pesky emissions and safety laws. He did this in California, no less.
In fact, if you can, just buy an Evo over here and get the VIN off a wrecked Lancer. You will end up with salvage title, but who cares? You'll be driving a new Evo in Canuckistan!

It is gonna take more than a few body panels to turn a ES into a Evo.
Anyways, either move to the United States or buy an STi in canada. Purchasing an IX and going through the hassle to get it into canada illegal is not worth going to jail. Be smart about this sitution.

They are NOT the same body. For one thing, look at the rear of the car and see how much wider the fenders are? The bodies look similar but are totally different. Plus even if the body was the same you would still need new front fenders, hood, bumper, everything that bolts onto the body. Plus for all that money you still wont have awd or the turbo motor unless all you car about is making it look like an EVO. Basically you are going to spend more to make it look like one than you would spend to actually buy one. I think the front doors and windows (except for the non RS rear) are the same as a regular Lancer though....
I know of some people who drive EVOs in Canada. The way they do it is they have a family member, like an Uncle, who lives in New York. The uncle bought the EVO in the US, and registered it in New York. But then "gave" it to the nephew who drives it in Canada. Totally legal
Thats what I wanted to do in the first place.... Now the plates are American right?
