do you have an af gauge? how do you know the car is running rich? do you have any other mods? boost controller, safc, larger injectors, etc?

Car is totally stock except for a VTA BOV that was changed back to the stocker. Spark plugs are fine, we checked them this past weekend. The computer was changed when he got the car which is why I think it's a tuning issue.

It won't go past 5500 rpm when the car is in gear, 4th and 5th gear. 1st-3rd it will go to 7000 or so.

He just got the gauges but hasn't installed them yet, a/f gauge is one of them.

I hope wideband A/F.

Oh VTA

What do you mean computer was changed? Do you mean flashed or swapped with a different Evo?

Yes with wideband or else the a/f guage is useless.

Yeah the previous owner had the VTA on it. Computer changed, meaning the dealership put in a stock computer but the parameters are probably setup incorrectly to compensate for that VTA bov. The car bucks at those rpms in those 2 gears like he's hitting a limiter.

That's what he's currently doing now, which is why he hasn't answered back in awhile. I'm sure that he'll post up again when he gets back.

Good to hear, if the dealer wants to charge you an arm and leg check out TurboTrix - they hooked me up when I was working out in NYC/NJ - their shop is in Edison, NJ. Even stock you can have a custom dyno tune ($500) or you can do a mail in for $300. Mark did a great job with my Evo (318whp on my old setup).

The VTA BOV had and has nothing to do with the ECU or the tune. Can you please clarify even FURTHER why the ECU was changed? I can't see why it would be completely changed, and even if they did, it would just have a stock tune on it. Mitsu doesn't randomly tune ECUs or anything, so a stock ECU should work normally.

YOu said the put in a stock computer as if it didn't already have one. Does that mean it had a standalone EMS or something?

You know what a rev limiter sounds and feels like I'm sure, so is it exactly like that or does it just sputter? Does it really bounce off a rev limiter at 5500 in 4th and not go above that rpm no matter what? Is this at WOT or low throttle, full boost or no boost? The rev limiter can't be different in different gears, so something is surely wrong.
