Are auto lancers a lost cause?

Just for the fun of it. Ive got an auto tranny ES. Is there anything I can do to get any noticable performance out of this car, or is it a lost cause to even try?

Im basically just curious how many modded auto lancers are out there and what I can expect if I get into modding this car, and if its even worth it.

Id like to at least be able to take a stock civic (on a closed track of course).

What can be done, and where to start?

Sometimes I think about getting something faster like an Si or something but then I realize that there are not near as many people modding lancers as there are hondas, and I like being different. I have an auto and I know that my car will never be fast, but imo I am doing better than any honda.

Can I ask you guys a question? Why are there sooo many auto lancer's? I went on autotrader and cars.com and almost every lancer on there was an auto. I only found about 4 cars there were m/t but they weren't in the color I was looking for. Is it just me or did they make a hell of a lot more auto lancers than m/t?

Its a family car. They sell better when you slap in an auto tranny.

auto's arent THAT bad though, its not like they are like 50hp less than manual. Its not that much of a difference.

You're talking as if you might as well be driving a kia. Its still a lancer and still has potential.

and like mentioned before, no one mods lancers. The amount of riced out civics i see on the road is rediculous. If you mod a lancer, you wont be the fastest car on the road, but at least you will be unique, and that will def get peoples attention.

if you do engine work, say lighter crank pulley, pistons, rods, cam you could take the old 169hp "minivan" gen SI and save a lil bit of money. *you'd prob invest 2500 of parts and be able to compete with the stock civic* whereas the lancer costs around 15k and the si...18k, so you'd save about 500 and have a decent car. or... use the 3k and spend it on the rrm 16g or a t3/t4 hybrid setup and have over 250 with good parts. yeah its an auto so u wouldnt have the gratification of a blow off valve sound, but you still got a badass sleeper. thats my 2 cents tho.

You can see my mod list, I am very happy with my auto Lancer. My experience has brought to light the draw back of it though, and that is, you have to do just about every mod possible if you go the NA route to make the Lancer nasty. Mine is pretty nasty at this point, especialy in comparison to when it was stock. If you can afford to turbo it right away you will have instant gratification. So I guess the worth of modifying a Lancer depends on the money you have to do it. Just add up the cost of all the bolt-ons that Road Race and RPW have and compare that to the cost of a turbo, and then, look at how much money you are willing to spend. Also, Like the others have mentioned, there is something to be said for modifying a Lancer because there just isn't that many of them around. I get a lot of looks by all types of people because they just dont see many cars that look like mine. Anyway, look at your money situation and decide, turbo or NA. If you go NA though, dont think you can just add an intake, header and exhaust and you'll be done, or that thats going to get you 50HP, it wont, and yopu will be disapointed.

Interesting. I also like the fact that the lancer is a kind of unique car. I see thousands of hondas in my area, but not many lancers. I guess that could be a bad thing, but ive never been one to go with the flow (although, I have owned a honda in the past).

The Lancer is a all around Great Car. I can definitely see these things still on the road 10 years from now. Just take care and maintain the car just like you would any other car.

I sure does pisses me off seeing so many Hondas everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I love the old school Accord 90-92. Those are excellent cars, but I hate all them Civic Bubbles!!!
