how do you launch your evo?
Dump means dump - the opposite of letting it go smoothly.
TurboIX, he said you probably cut your clutch's life in half, because you didn't know what you were doing and did them all wrong. You probably burned the hell out of the clutch a bunch of times, and that's what kills it the quickest.

well what i do to keep it safe is rev it up to about 3000 rpm and then let it out smooth. not slow, just smooth. with a stock car your probably going to bog down if you just dump it from 5000 rpm and then you have to wait for the spool. i find that the car responds better to the 3000 rpm launch because it can grab a little better. and you are less likely to break something. just my opinion...
dumping the clutch is retarded if all your going to do is slip. launching isnt the same as dumping the clutch unless you have some sort of clutch kit.
you need to practice and see what RPM gets you off the line quicker...and just to make sure...start with lower rpm's while testing and then work your way up. everyone goes high first. your gonna break something.

3000rpm? Nothing safe about that - you're just killing your clutch or not launching at all. That's too low for some 2wd cars even. That absolutely does not respond better than 5k+, because you can't make any power or boost at that rpm. If you ever tried that on a drag strip, you'd see that your 60' would be a 2.2 or worse, which is terrible.
Here's the ~6000rpm quick-slip method that has been explained several times in this thread:
Warrtalon's 12.000
RPMs up, slowly let out clutch until it starts to grab, then quick release on the clutch while simultaneously hammering the throttle. The result is nice and smooth 1.6 60's.

So the rev limiter is actually what makes it easier to bog?
Lets see if I get this straight..Rev 5k+ and do a very very quick slip untill it catches then dump it...Correct?
I was doing 3-4 k and doing longer slips instead of quick then dump.

You're not launching at 3-4k. I used to think the same way you did, then I started learning.
I launch my car near 6k, I've launched it 50 times easily on this clutch. I don't even smell clutch at all when I launch, and that's at 6k. Gotta know what you're doing.
Hell, look at Warrtalon, he bangs gears, flat foot shifts, launches the hell out of it, and generally speaking has less mechanical issues then most people here.
If you're not prepared to pay for a broke clutch/trans/motor what ever, don't launch the car.
You have to pay to play, and I'm sick of reading posts with people crying about breaking parts.
I've blown clutches, trans, all sorts of items, but I don't cry about it, that's what Visa is for.

dumping it at around 5500rpm's (exedy twin), broke the neck of the dipstick though
need to learn to slip as i feel tranny will give in if i continue doing the dumping method.

i rev to 4 grand and just feather it and it does just fine but that was with the stock clutch and then my clutch started slipping so now i have the ACT clutch with the organic street disc and i love it.

your not smart your scared. Take the advice given about the quick slip that is the best method. I like to start my launch around 6500-6800 but then again I find 60ft times of low 1.7's and high 1.6's the norm when I drag race.
