Bought new MR today - break in done!

I flew from Sacramento to Costa Mesa this morning to purchase my new Silver MR from South Coast Mistubishi. Mike and Mark were great and I was in and out in less than an hour. The car had 7 miles on the odometer when I took delivery. The drive home was 450 miles, but took longer than would be expected as I pulled off the freeway on almost every exit in order to vary the revs and properly break in the car. I followed the no > 5,000 RPMs perfectly, but decided that I could not call in a day without all 600 miles being completed. So after I got home, I took the car back out and did the final 150 miles. Long day, but worth it to get the break in done. The car is a lot of fun. Much more of a driver's car than my E46 M3. The steering and handling is unbelievable. I can't wait to take it back out tomorrow.

Sleep first. Then a wash (me and the car). Afterwards - pictures.

just wondering, how many tanks of gas did it take to complete the whole break in?

Good question on the gas. I put about 40 gallons of gas in the car and still had around 10 gallons when I parked it at 600 miles. So 30 gallons, plus or minus a couple. 20 mpg sounds about right as I was constantly varying my speed and pulling off the freeway every 5 miles. Plus, the last 150 miles were all done on non-freeway roads.

I thought you're supposed to make sure you vary the RPMs when you do the break-in. Driving 450 miles on the highway at the same RPM goes against this rule. I may be wrong though.

It'll be fine, break in on modern engines is barely even required.
