Is Evo a good car for a college student?
When i went to college there were always jealous haters out there that would mess up nice cars. Unless theres is a ton of security at school and your not worried about having people mess up your ride, the answer would be NO
I get a kick out of high school and college kids who say they pay for everything themselves. Tuition, insurance, car insurance, medical insurance (which can make car insurance look like peanuts), car payments etc.

HAHA friggin hilarious. Good old college life. Its a good car if you plan on living in it, having no social life/study time. Of course you would look good pulling up to take someone out in the evo but there is a buzz kill when you haveta sneek in the backdoor of the movie theater because you cant afford the tickets.
It is expensive to maintain. It does not give you good gas mileage and it will be very distracting, you probably would like to go and show off the car to your friends all the time and you would get asked to give rides all the times.
I say buy a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.

The thought of the car being vandalized or damaged in some other way "drunken co-eds/haters" would be enough to keep me from getting one while in college. I'm paranoid enough as it is just leaving it parked at work. If you must get an Evo for college, I would make it a used one. However, I would probably just get a little Escort/Civic that got good mileage and saved up for a Evo when I got out. Just my 2 cents.
^^^^ great comment^^^ , I totally forgot about that. There will be hundreds of haters in college that would love to scratch your car or simply race you.
Not worth to take the Evo to College.

several steps to owning an evo in college:
1) a lot of money, or wealthy parents
2) find a used evo VIII (craigslist)
3) find grandparent to cover insurance ($2015 a year for 21yo with good record with progressive)
4) pay for your own gas
5) parents help 50% with maintaining it
6) go to class, get weekend job, drive it like you stole it

like many said before, it's possible but just not worth it unless your parents are paying for everything, then it's their money so who cares. but college is a time that should be fun, you don't want to be obligated to spend xxx dollars every month for your car. you want to be able to just say "i feel like drinking all night," or "i want to go to this concert" and not have to worry about whether or not you can make your car payment.
there was a kid in my fraternity who worked 40+ hours/week while going to school full time. i think he was doing it to pay tuition, which is honorable, but he was just never around. i lived next to him and pretty literally saw him about once a month. the rest of the time was either working, studying, working on projects, etc... he even worked through most parties we had. missing college like this just for a car is totally not worth it. have fun, get something cheaper and save up for your fantasy car after school
funny enough, this kid, after he graduated, kept the job he had during school as well as worked as an electrical engineer at raytheon making $60k, so he was making quite a bit (probably close to $100k) right after school but could do nothing but save it because he had no time to enjoy it. some people are cool with that, i'd rather make less and have fun though

you could do like myself and a few others and get a lancer oz or rally and then turbo it.
Some of the perks at a fraction of the cost, especially if you do it yourself and peice it together. My setup should be finished at around $1000 but that is not to be expected for everyone.

There's nothing to get a kick out of, some people can do it some can't.
I personally am in college and pay for my car completely. I worked my butt off this summer to pay car insurance and i work during the school year. I dont waste my money on booze (well i try to not to) and I do what i can to make payments and have money for parts. I absolutely have been obsessed with evos and am freakin ecstatic that I have been able to make it work. I say anyone should go for it and realize that you may have to make some sacrifices if you are really wanting to own this car.
