i've always thought about a radar detector. and i always liked the V1 and then i saw the Passport 8500 x50.

on the V1...you can send it in to get it updated whenever necessary? even if the 1 year warranty is over?

You can get it updated, but it says that the price will vary depending on the parts needed. You also get another year's warranty after the update is done.

The point is, is that you CAN get it updated, unlike the other detectors. I'd rather spend $400 now, and pay $30 or whatever the cost is for an upgrade, rather than paying $250-300 now and having to pay that all over again once a new technology pops up.

Yes, you can.

When I bought mine 4 years ago, I was just going to buy one on ebay. The prices that they were going for was $360+. I didn't see the point of buying a used one for $40 less than a BRAND NEW model. These things hold their value REALLY well. Bad news for you now(higher cost to get one), but once you get one, you'll see why other detectors lose 50%+ within a year or two, and the V1's hold their value so well.

I'm not sure what they go for on ebay now, but I'd go ahead and just get a new one.

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.851 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

Escort Passport 8500 X50. Its the best. hands down. I know from expeirence that they detect so well and that the false alarms are almost non existent.

damm i never even heard of the Valentine. i had a cobra radar for a long time until the sound eventaully went away from years of hot cars and constant alarms. so i went and bought a passport, dont remember which one (the cordless one) way too many alarms. then went to buy another cobra and now the problem im having is the radar interfeers with my xm radio. everytime i plug it in my xm radio losses signal strength on and off, so i took it down and threw it in the glove box. the question i have for you guys is, will this valentine mess with the signals that the xm radio is receiving. i like what ive read about this V1 radar. just dont wanna buy it and then it screws up the xm radio also.........thanx in advance......

http://www.radar-detectors-uk.com/

They are only available in the UK because of the use of speed cameras and other speed measuring devices that aren't really used in the U.S.
