And for the guy that said it gave too many false alarms.. it does have L l and A mode. Put it on L mode for Logic mode.. It will ignore alot of weak signals.. I know you simply traded with your friend but that's probably why you didn't get a chance to read the manual to really understand how it worked.
automute is when the band and signal is constant for a certain number of seconds, say 3, then it will lower down the volume of the alert. for the Beltronics , it will not go into automute if it reaches 4 bars or above.

I also have mine in the L mode and it was giving me way too many X alerts. I FULLY read the manual from the website, and on how to program different features within the V1. A couple of the things i did was make the Ka band the more responsive, eliminate the X band and TRY to get auto mute working without pressing the button.

here are some good reports regarding the V1 from the V1 site

I've got a pretty old Whistler right now, only 1 ticket in 4 years.

Highway patrol sniped me on I-75 going 86

Other than that I like my oldie.

But if I were to get a new one? V1.

valatine 1, i had it for 4 weeks and never got clocked so i figiured it was not worth the money since cops have better things to do around here than clock people and they are usually cool up to 15mph and thats enough for me..lol

Elhalisf,

All of your testing means nothing because you can't test two or more radar detectors at the same time without them affecting each other in a negative way.

yes, i am aware of that. i read that article before, and practically every article on the V1 site.
But i also provided some information that did not involve side by side testing. moreover, i have had the chance to use my brothers RX65 on a number of ocasions prior to my use of the V1.

Two radar detectors in the same car will give each other false alarms and mess with each other in other ways, so I dont know bout your "test".

Also, I've never even heard about a good Bel radar. The two leading (& best) radars are the 8500 X50 and the V1.

them being beside each other did not increase the number of false alarms i normally get compared to when i use them independantly. but for the RX65 to catch the radar bogey almost every single time before the V1 tells me something.
plus, who needs arrows and bogey counts. if there is an alert, you make sure your doing the speed limit.

The V1 and the X50 both have front and rear facing antennas, laser detectors, pop mode detection, and excellent sensitivity. Either one will get the job done (although I prefer the layout of the V1 with all the controls on the rear of the detector). What really matters is how they are used. Since most police now use pulse type radar/laser, radar detectors are pretty much only useful when there are other cars on the road in front of you and if you have a laser jammer. If you think otherwise, you are in denial, and you'll eventually get a ticket.

Wrong, only the Valentine One has 2 antennas and arrows to point to the worst threat because it has a patent on this.

Ok, I gotcha on the patented arrows for threat direction on the V1, but the X50 has two antennas. One on the rear of the unit (facing forward out the windshield) and another smaller one on top that picks up signals from the rear of the car.

X50 in mine !!!!!

P.S. I don't have any speeding tickets either .........ever!!!

Like has been said, they are both great. If someone were to buy either one, they won't be disappointed. This freakin pissing match is ghey. V1 owners get their panties all in a bunch worse that anyone I've ever seen when this topic comes up. "How can anyone defy the power of the V1?!?!?" Relax. It's just like the Evo/STI debate. Their both awesome cars, quit feeling like you've gotta fight to the death on this stupid crap.

That little sensor on top is just for laser.

http://www.escortradar.com/8500x50manual.pdf -- page 5

Which, IMO, does no good. 90% of the time, once that laser warning goes off, you'll be seeing red and blue in the rear view.

And I agree that both are good detectors. However, performance aside, when you're buying a product, customer support is half of the game. That's where V1 has the advantage over the others.
