Cool A Subie Driver..New member here

Hey everyone,

I'm on NASIOC as well because I do have a 2002 Impreza Wrx. Figured it would be nice to join the most popular Evo site on the web to get more knowledge from even more drivers. I have been looking at buying a new car and selling mine. Of course the typical debate between the Wrx Sti and Evolution 8 are the two im looking at. I have driven both cars and both are great. Hard for me to even narrow down both to what I like or do not like about both. I was going to ask for some links of the STI vs. EVO threads you may have. I used the search option (Very popular to use on Nasioc ) but i assume their are like 1935702138597 threads for it because it just kept searching and searching. Overall taking forever . So hoping their is a nice good long thread with the Evo sites opinion on it. I have researched both cars and have read numerous opinions. It always seems to come down to Realibility on Subarus part, more power on Mitsubishis part. However, I would just like to see threads on opinions here. I may hear only the Negatives about the cars on a subaru site, so I want to see all perspectives yanno? Anyways just wanted to say hi to everyone. Hopefully get a nice welcome thanks

-Brian

evo vs sti

The evo is much easier to squeeze power out of. Has better 0 - 60 times than sti. Super responsive handeling. And in my opinion has more of a rush when the turbo kicks in. Have to admit tho. Subaru is fun as well has a lil bit more of a muscle car feel to it with its extra cogs and grumbly sound, the reliabilty is much better from what I hear. i have to admit, my car has given me a **** load of problems and crazy down time, with no mods. Keeps me scared to mod. But at the same time I do work in a shop so I have a lot of knowledgeable people around to help in the event of a blown engine or clutch or what ever. Just be prepared that even if your in the right, mistsu will give you a ******* before they warrenty anything, my experience anyway, probably varies from dealer to dealer. I setteled with them and had to get a lawyer for a blown motor with less then 3000 miles. All in all I still have to admit that i love the car and like it better than the subie. Just more my cup of tea. I have sti friends that admit that its harder to get power out of thier cars than the evo. I love my evo tho, and ever since that one major issue, everything else has been ok. i basically take care of it myself after work in the shop. If you have mechanical knowledge it will save you tons with this car. They are both fun as hell, I have driven both, evo jus my cup of tea. As far as reliabilty, **** it Ill fix it myself!

I was in the same boat as you, upgrading from a 02 WRX to either a Evo 8 or STI. Since I was buying used I was going to go with whatever the best deal I could find whether it be a Evo or STI. Ultimately I had to go with an Evo because of the insurance being cheaper. It doesn't make sense, but with my USAA insurance the Evo is $500 less a year compared to the STI.

Good luck in choosing btw the sti and evo. Price wise on modding you will get more bang for your $ on an evo. I like both cars and was shopping for a 2006. Came down to price for modding and design of the exterior. Don't care much for the new subie front end.

And welcome to evom.

In the majority of the magazines that I have read in order to get the most out of the mods for the STi you need an ecutek or something along that lines. It also helps if you get a reflash for the EVO but it is not as dependent on it. I have the injen intake w/ upper i/c pipe and the jic turbo back. I have the HKS SSQV VTA and I seem to be one of the only ones who has not had the car throw a cel. I have every suspension part cusco makes including the zero2r's. It will pull on almost everything and handles beautifully. Before I bought my EVO I test drove a lot of cars STi, 350Z, G35 coupe, Mustang, Vette, S2000, and an M3. I had to go with the EVO none of the other cars performed as well out of the box and It was the least expensive. I am taking my car to Vivid racing next week to replace the clutch after 55,000 miles and get the ecutek. I have had no problems with my car as of yet(knock on wood). Hope this helps, I know it is frustrating. Good Luck and welcome to EVOM
