Help repairing dent!

I'm so frustrated. Long story short: went to the car wash, everything great - got home to dry and polish... blah blah, discovered a short (1/2 inch long) dent about 1/4" deep in the rear passenger side panel - by the rear door frame. A little of the black plastic from the door window frame is also scratched off.

I scuffed, cleaned - filled with bondo. Sanded, cleaned - primed (with dupli color primer), sanded again (using 1000 grit then 2000 grit). Finally applied a light coat of dupli color bright white paint. Looks pretty good. coverage is clean and flat...

but just doesnt look right.

No clear coat yet. I'm just upset because I don't know how to take care of the edges that are created by the masking.

I'm feeling that the dupli color and the oem paint don't match, and my poor evo looks like it has a stain on it.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to finish off?

Much appreciated folks.

i'll get a pic and post it in the morning.

Man you should have taken it to a paintless dent remover (PDR) place. They do amazing work...

Put the CC on with no masking tape (other than over rubber and glass obviously) make sure that you put the CC over the entire area. Then get it wetsanded, or wetsand it yourself. If your worried about making the color match you shouldnt have painted with a rattlecan. Take it to a paint shop and get them to color match.

Dude, I'm appauled at your actions. You have an amazing car and you drive the darn thing through an automatic car wash! What the hell is that? Then, to top it off, you try to fix body damage caused by the mechanical car wash w/ bondo and a rattle spray paint can? Unbelievable! You're not driving an old beat up Beetle you know. Do you really have no time to wash your car yourself? You'd rather have a machine wash your car?

This reminds me of someone in my town who owned a Porsche -- a nice one...

...and he lived in a trailer park.

It's unfortunate that the EVO has been hyped enough to fall into the hands of the masses.

I swear...only in Jersey -- the armpit of the US.

Now that I've calmed down a little ... Here's a good reference for detailing your car.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/index.jsp?subPage=12

Click on the "Detailer's Handbook" - in red.

Please ... no one else do this to their car.

why in the hell would you use bondo on a dent?!

Its a body pannel filler used for smoothing gaps and ripples in sheet metal replacement.

Heres what you do. Scrape all that **** out. Get yourself some of the Orbit gum..the white kind. Chew 5 or 6 peices then jab it in the dent. Smooth with a rolling pin, and if it falls out, just use duct tape.

deepee1: Your new name is now dipsh*t.

I feel sorry for you, i really do... But please tell me you were drunk as hell or really fuc*ed up when you thought it would be okay to use rattlecan paint on your evo. Let alone bondo on a small dent. Really you should have thought about this more clearly before you reacted to the situation.

I understand you were upset and pissed that you found a dent...but now you have found out this is worse than what it was and knowing your not happy with it is the bigger issue.

This reminds me of the tv show where the kid takes his father "pride and joy" out for a weekend spin with his friends when they are out of town and then he wrecked it and gets this bright idea to put about 2 gallons of bondo on one door. And all is perfect, his father comes home and the first thing he checks out is his old beautiful chevelle and he's like: Well son you have impressed me, i am proud of you. The car hasnt moved an inch.... And if i was your age i prolly would have taken it out for a spin... Glad to see i can trust you... So he opens the door as hes looking over the car and his son is standing there nervously. His father then smiles and shuts the door and all of the 2 gallons of bondo falls straight off the door like a sheet of glass.

Oh, joy.. anyways. Well deepee i hope you get it fixed. Post up some pictures.

I've never taken the car to an auto wash - always been hand washed. The dent is from some pickup truck door that was moving out whilst I was parked outside the bay.

This wasn't a small dent - it was a gouge, the sheet metal would have been impossible to pull back.

As evo150 says, I'll take it to a pro to look at.

Please, don't feel sorry for me EiEvo... As much as I enjoy the evo and take care of my car, fortunately material things don't own me - doesn't bother me much either way. I'm not one of those ****/possessive types that spazzes out like its the end of the world if a breadcrumb falls on the car.

Forget taking it to a body shop, I can easily pick up and install a new panel. Bought this car to drive and work on - not preserve. Just wanted to avoid taking the easy route and pay my way out, and I like putting in a little care and effort.
