When you're looking at KBB and stuff, modifications to the car change the whole ballgame. If you are looking to trade the car in or sell it to a dealer (you'll be getting screwed anyway) then they consider mods something that lowers the value of the car. If you are talking strictly about private buyers, then it could go either way. People could argue that because the car is modified then it's less reliable. Like when you open up your laptop the warranty is voided... On the other hand you could possibly sell it for more to someone who is looking for a modded Evo and is willing to pay for it. Like everyone above said, it all depends on the situation. You can't look at an online price quote and assume that's an across the board price. It just gives an idea of where you might start.

i will tell you a line that i heard from many dealers and i actually like:
"if KBB says it is worth $28k, go sell it to KBB"
this is economy 101 and when you have more supply than demand, the price goes down. the evo is not a rare or exotic car and you can pretty much buy one anytime you want. also, cars like that don't retain their value like the more "exclusive" brands. the dealers pretty much give them for free so there is no reason for me to pay you a premium or even book value. as for mods, i am on the camp that wouldn't pay a cent more for a modded car no matter what it has (well, maybe a bit extra for rims or a nice stereo). if i see a car with engine mods, i will run away or really low ball the seller. i havee had some bad luck with modded cars as you can tell...

Great point blonde! I would have to agree. I'm being slightly hypocritical because I purchased my vehicle with aftermarket parts on it, but I would agree that for the most part, aftermarket parts should not raise the value of the car by a significant amount. If there is a nice upgraded turbo kit w/ other significant mods which you were perhaps planning to add yourself, then the additional cost may be fair to you. But if I was looking at a vehicle that had what I considered to be a poor choice in modifications, I may not offer 1 cent over the market value of a stocker.Originally Posted by blonde

In addition, a lot of people would prefer a stock, or very close to stock, vehicle to purchase. I know I would. I simply don't want to run someone else's setup. It's kind of like being 15 and finding out that none of the girls you're interested in are virgins. Sure your still gonna do it, but you certainly don't like to think about the guy who modded her before you...

I believe that in a year or so the price of used evos will stabilize and maybe even go up a few thousand because as soon as the CT9A platform is gone then the 03-06 8s and 9s will be only available used until the X arrives.
Soon after the available quantity will diminish as more cars are bought by the people that can actually afford them, are totaled, and modded too heavily for resale.

I would prefer to keep mine due to body style. I don't know that I would want a different body style than the 8 or 9. Sometimes the manufacturer makes changes in a car you don't like, so you stick with the earlier version.
Such as the S2000. I have a 2002, not only because I purchased it in 02 but because in my opinion it has the best overall setup for the S2000 compared to the other years.
Note to anyone who cares: 02 and 03 model year S2000 are the same.

This thread is true on evos going for low prices. There are alot of evos with lots of mods going for 19-25k. The evo is a rare car. I can go to any local dealership besides mitsu, and not find a used one. We need to keep up their value.

no it is not. do a search online right now and you will findd many new ones for sale with all colors, options available for either below or for invoice. also take a look in ebay and our own buy and sell forums and you will see that you really don't have to work hard to find one. 93 tx7 TT and a toyota supra TT are alot harder to come by and that is why they kept their value and even gone up. seriously guys, we need to keep in mind that we are talking about a mitsubishi here and expecting it to increase in value is a bit of stratch. maybe in 5-10 years after all the kids crash theirs the price will go up. another small thing to keep in mind is the gas prices hike and the fact that more and more people are forced to go with more economical cars because they can not afford 17mpg on a good day. this also brings the demand down a bit more.Originally Posted by dbdude

I also think that the price is going to stabilize and probably go up some once the Evo 9's are no longer available but I don't have time to wait around for that.
