I thought it was 19 or 19.5, the VIIIs boost 20 stock, not the IXs.

No they arent, the 8's are rated at 19psi stock. The evo 9 are rated at 20.3psi stock. However, every evo from the factory will boost at different levels. My friends 03 8 was reading 15psi stock when we put the gauge on there. He also had the car leak tested. Its just like what every car will dyno at. They all will dyno at different numbers.

VIIIs run 18.5psi to 5500rpm then taper to 16psi according to the video they make you watch at the dealer when you buy one.

Not sure about the IX completely but I do agree that they run 20.3psi peak. This is according to a dealer pamphlet I got this summer.

is it true that boost automatically goes up once you start modding? ie, intake exhaust?

dont mean to hijack the thread here but can the evo's ecu or pcm adjust itself to run more boost to a certain level like say to hold 23psi straight across? If so how much boost can it make up for before a reflash is necessary?

Nope. You can add a little boost but it will always taper in the upper rpms. Even with a MBC.

btw: My evo IX's boost goes to 23psi and drops to like 16psi by 7800 rpm... I think it used to goto 19psi and drop to 16psi by 7k rpm when it was stock.
