lookin into an evo
lookin into an evo
Im Ian, I had a 1992 Galant VR-4 it was #27, but on the way home from the shootout it burned to the ground. One of the fuel lines snapped and sprayed fuel all over my engine bay and im guessing the coil pack sparked it and caught fire and burned to the ground. So now im in the market for a new car, and an evo seems like the logical next step. Ive been looking at the MR and the IX, any sugestions, I was thinking about getting into road racing so the MR is looking better to me, but is it worth the price to go the MR just for the 6 speed, wheels, and suspension.....im leaning tword yes...Since ive been a part of the galant world for a long time i never really payed attention to evos so i dont know the little differecnce between them all yet so any help on little differences between the MR and the IX along with why you think which ones better would help a lot.
If you are into road racing get the RS. You'll save more money for parts. The MR shocks are ok for street but will be lacking if you are fast at all on a road course. The 6speed is a weaker transmission and you will be driving it hard for 20-30 mins at a time so thats why I am getting the RS.

if youre doing road racing - the suspension might be pointless if youre just going to upgrade to coilovers anyway. At least a couple road racing MRs have had 4th gear go out on them, most likely due to heat stress.
the MR also has an aluminum roof, brake cooling air guides, underbody spolier on the front, vortex generator and a wicker bill on the wing. And don't forget the HIDs. For me it wasnt that much more for an MR, so It was definately worth it.
edit: the RS is also a great option if youre not using it as a daily driver. the deal breaker on the RS though is the lack of ABS. ABS > non ABS when rain is involved, and it doesnt hurt you in Dry pavement either.

If you're going to mod the car for racing, don't bother with the MR. Aside from being stronger, the 5 speed also has better gearing for the track especially when you throw a bit of power at the car.
Basicly the 6 speed was my main concern, how strong is it?, altho after having a dsm for so many years anything will seep awesome to me lol. I was told that the suspension was pretty nice on the MR, altho that also crossed my mind why buy an MR when I would be upgrading the suspension fairly soon after getting it. I guess when it comes down to it is do I want the 6 speed or the 5, and is the 6 speed REALLY that much weaker?

If you'd be buying the car just for the 6 speed, the $ difference is not worth it.
I just switched over from a VW R32 with a 6 speed transmission, and don't miss it one bit with my 5 speed
