Ok, so the OP said gas mileage sucks.....any proof of this such as numbers or dollars spent on a tank of gas, MPG, etc? This thread is crap without any of that. Like the other guy said, don't buy an EVO if you're worried about gas mileage. Get a hybrid or some crap like that.

Moral of the story is, if you have any mods done and you are not tuned, take them off until you are able to get tuned, this could be hurting your MPG. Also we need a MPG in order to tell how far off mileage you are getting right now, generally helpful to give everyone as much information about your problem as possible. And last but not least, do not shift at 2k, if you shift that low you are probably bogging your motor down and having to push the accelerator down more than needed in order to make up for the low RPMs. Shift at 2800-3000 RPMs and never lower and see how your gas mileage goes from there!

Why is everyone saying to stay away from chevron? I always thought chevron was good.

I'm getting about 260-270miles per tank (which I filled up w/ 11gallons).
Thats w/ mixed driving (city/highway), some spirited driving, some 2.5-3k shifting and having the a/c on.

I have no complaints about my gas mileage.

and for all you guys that say that i bought the evo with hopes of good gas mileage...just shut it. i know what the evo is and i know it's city/highway mpgs. but it looks like im not getting as good MPG as other evo guys.

on my stock 05 I get about 24-25 MPG with mixed 35/65 mix of city/highway. Then again I tend to try and keep it out of boost, but we all know how hard that can be after awhile.

Does that really work? I mean, do folks over nine years old ever retreat when you tell them, "just shut it?" This comment is even more astonishing in light of your participation on a public forum.

i know what the evo is and i know it's city/highway mpgs. but it looks like im not getting as good MPG as other evo guys.
How can you possibly compare your MPG to "other evo guys," when there's no reason to think that everyone drives similarly under constant conditions. It's as if the car's mileage exists in a vacuum. Given the description of what I'll loosely refer to as your driving technique, you most likely spend more time than necessary modulating the throttle. That eats fuel. Once you gain more car-control, your MPG will most likely improve.

i have stated it before that if i was going for gas mileage then i would've gotten the bmw that my mom wanted me to get, and i know how guys on this forum get...so please excuse my word choice.

i know that a steady throttle will save more gas...thats why highway yields better mpg than city. but i figured that if i shifted low (2k rpm), then i might be able to save gas since the turbo isnt doing much. it's not like the car is bogging and i'm not floring the gas pedal...i'm simply just giving it enough gas probably around 1/4 (maybe not even)...and yes, i have gotten crap for driving slow. lol

also note that this is how i drive when i try to reach 250 miles per tank. and im a spirited driver but i was just dissapointed with my gas mileage compared to everyone elses, which is why i decided to try to break 250 miles per tank by shifting at 2k in the city and cruising at 65 on the freeway.

Because of all the detergents that chevron adds to their fuel, the actual octane can be lowered. If you live in California, then you should be especially weary, as we already have low enough 91 octane. 76 has been found to be one of the best fuels for California. Here's a good thread about it with dyno evidence:
