Blow by

my evo has 1800 miles on it now . I checked the other day for excessive blow by by taking the oil filler cap off just to see how much air came out there.
Is it normal for a lot of air to be coming out of there. I checked on my other boosted dsm and i hardly have any air coming out of my oil filler hole.
Is it just not broken in enough or is that normal ?

Don't worry about it. That's not the proper way to check blowby anyways.

This got me curious so I went out and pulled the cap on my car. The thing blows like a dryer vent. This might be normal but it is weird. Like you say, a DSM 4G63 doesn't spew air like this.

wouldn't you check your uicp or intake for oil residue from blowby?

I started my car and let it run until the idle settled down and then removed the oil filler cap. There is a pretty good outflowing breeze. The air coming out didn't have the strong odor you'd expect of blowby. My car doesn't use oil or have any other issues. So, I donno.

i know you mean that you don't burn oil but the first time i read it i had to laugh.

on A853 - A855 (srt-4 engines) it has a slight breeze but i don't know if it's from blow by or if something else causes it. i noticed it when changing my oil when i had my boost on PCM control... now that it's off of PCM control i haven't noticed it when changing oil.

Thanks i was just kind of curious , i know thats not the porper way to check for blow by but it is one of the signs that you have blow by, or in other words air leaking past the piston rings or through the vavle seats into the engine.
